Contenders for promotion Sannat Lions were held to a draw of four goals by Qala Saints and therefore failed to take advantage of the results of match-day twelve to increase their lead over the other challengers to three points.  The final score is a just result as the two sides seemed determined to obtain a victory from this encounter.  In this match Sannat showed some lack of concentration, mainly during the first hour of play, while Qala confirmed the improvement registered in the previous matches and also confirmed that they not only merit their position on the table, but they could have been among the teams in the top positions on the table.

Qala could have opened the scored after just twenty five second s of play but Christoph Caruana had his shot that hit the crossbar.  Play took place mainly in the midfield with few scoring opportunities during the opening phase of the match but on 20 minutes Qala went again close to scoring through a shot by Steve Dimech that ended wide.  Three minutes later Sannat replied through an attempt by Antoine Camilleri that ended away from goal and on 30 minutes a shot by Sunday Baala was deflected by Qala’s defence and goalie Franco Buttigieg saved the danger.  The same goalkeeper was well placed one minute later to save to a corner a header by Ajibade Adesina following a wrong clearance by Qala’s defence and on 45 minutes a shot by Omar Xuereb following a free kick by David Udo Monday ended away from Qala’s goal.  Although Sannat were producing more offensive play during the last part of the first period, Qala opened the score in the first minute of stoppage time when Sannat’s goalie and the central defence hesitated to clear the ball from the area and Steve Dimech was at the right place, took the ball and placed easily into an open goal.

Sannat came out determined for the second period in an attempt to recover the result while Qala seemed confident in their play and managed to control play during the initial stages.  On 56 minutes Sannat’s Antoine Camilleri received an inviting pass inside Qala’s area from Mark Muscat but the final shot ended high.  On the hour mark Qala could have doubled the score but Steve Dimech hit badly from close distance following a cross by Francisco Mumford and the ball ended inches wide.  Sannat were again dangerous on 64 minutes but Sunday Baala’s attempt ended away from goal.  Sannat levelled the score on 74 minutes when Qala’s defence failed top clear the ball from the area following a free kick from long distance by Nicholas Micallef and Ajibade Adesina fired the ball in goal from close distance.  Sannat’s joy was short-lived as Qala regained the lead on 76 minutes through a first timer from close distance by Steve Dimech following a low cross by substitute Luke Meilak.  Sannat were not demoralised and managed to score the equaliser on 87 minutes from a penalty, awarded for handling by Samuel Sillato, and converted by Sunday Baala.  Sannat could have turned the result in their favour in the first minute of stoppage time when a strike by substitute Kenneth Bonnici was stopped by the crossbar.
