Sannat Lions recovered from a difficult start in the campaign and registered their second consecutive win from their match against Xaghra United.  With this result Sannat remain with the possibility to be serious challengers to current leaders Munxar Falcons for promotion.  In this last match from the first round for the two sides both Sannat and Xaghra had good reasons to aim for the victory.  Sannat needed the win to consolidate their second place on the table while Xaghra were aiming to recover from two consecutive defeats.  Xaghra shared play with their opponents during the first half but Sannat took command of play from the early stages of the second period and dominated the last part of the match where they could have obtain the victory with a larger margin.

Xaghra went close to score an early goal. In the sixth minute of play Daniel Glodi entered Sannat’s area but his low shot ended wide.  Sannat replied on 14 minutes through a cross shot by Frankie Camilleri that ended just high and less than a minute later Xaghra’s Daniel Glodi had a close ranged attempt that was blocked by goalie Angelo Brignoli.  From the resultant melee Xaghra’s Luke Attard’s shot ended high.  Xaghra were again dangerous on 20 minutes but a shot by Gabriel Farrugia was saved by Sannat’s keeper.  On 32 minutes Sannat’s goalie Angelo Brignoli managed to save to a corner an effort by Daniel Glodi following a personal action.  Friom the resultant corner action Sannat’s Nicholas Micallef committed a foul on Xaghra’s Savio Galea.  The referee awarded a penalty and Xaghra opened the score through Manuel Galea’s shot from the spot kick.  Sannat had an immediate reaction and levelled the score on 35 minutes through a strike by Franci Kosova following a personal action.  Sannat were again dangerous on 42 minutes through a strike by Mark Muscat that was blocked by goalie Frankie Azzopardi.

Sannat maintained their momentum from the early stages of the second period and turned the result in their favour with two goals scored in the space of four minutes.  Sannat took the lead on 50 minutes when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul by Savio Galea on Franci Kosova and the latter converted form the spot kick.  Xaghra were demoralised and on 54 minutes Sannat increased their lead when Franci Kosova produced a personal action inside Xaghra’s area, turned around the goalkeeper and deposited the ball inside an open goal.  Sannat were now in the driving seat and in more than one occasion they went very close to increase their lead.  On 67 minute Sannat’s substitute Isaac Mampalao had a shot following a prolonged action that ended just wide.  Three minutes later a header by Sannat’s Oliver Farrugia just missed the target and on 71 minutes a header by Frankie Camilleri following a cross by Oliver Farrugia was blocked by Xaghra’s keeper Frankie Azzopardi.  Sannat were again dangerous on 75 minutes through a shot by Oliver Farrugia that ended wide and three minutes later the same goalkeeper saved in two attempt a shot by Isaac Mampalao.  Xaghra’s best opportunity to reopen the issue arrived on 78 minutes through a shot by Luke Attard that ended wide.  Sannat could have scored the fourth goal in the second minute of stoppage time but substitute Chrismar Xuereb had a lob addressed towards an open goal that ended inches away from the post.
