MATCH REPORT

Xewkija Tigers returned to winning ways in their first match of the second round against relegation strugglers SK Victoria Wanderers and re-open their chances to re-join the race for the title.  Xewkija were determined to make up for the disappointing draw that they obtained in their previous match of the championship against Kercem and dominated over their opponents during he first part of the match where they opened a deserved three goal lead.  In this match the Wanderers had Predrag Dordevic and Sam Harland missing due to a suspension but they never gave the impression that they could recover the three goal deficit conceded during the opening minutes. Victoria managed to take advantage of some scoring opportunities during the second period so that they made the score more respectable.

Xewkija took command of play form the very beginning and on four minutes Claudio Antunes incredibly concluded high form close distance following an inviting cross by Daniel Bogdanovic.  On 9 minutes a free kick by Daniel Bogdanovic was well saved by goalie Matthew Towns and one minute later Xewkija opened the score when Victoria’s defence failed to clear across from the right flank by Daniel Bogdanovic and Darko Krstic defended the ball and netted with a curling shot.  On 16 minutes Xewkija doubled the score through an excellent direct free kick by Daniel Bogdanovic that ended out of the reach of the goalkeeper.  The Wanderers replied on 20 minutes when Aud-gustine James Obaje entered Xewkija’s area with a personal action but his cross shot was blocked to a corner.  One minute later Xewkija scored their third goal when Darko Krstic entered Victoria’s area with a personal action and form his pass Milos Stojanovic fired in goal with a strike form the edge of the area.  On 23 minutes Xewkija’s goalie was well placed to neutralise a low shot by Gabriel Cardona and on 32 minutes Xewkija’s Darko Krstic had a shot from an angled position following a personal action that ended on the side of the net. Three minutes later Xewkija’s keeper was called to save an effort by Aud-gustine James Obaje and one minute later the same keeper made a difficult intervention when he saved in two attempts a close ranged shot by Joseph Buhagiar who was unmarked by Ajibade Adesina.  Victoria kept insisting and on 42 minutes a free kick by Aud-gustine James Obaje was deflected to a corner. Xewkija could have added another goal on 44 minutes but Claudio Antunes lifted over the crossbar from close distance following an inviting cross by Gennaro Hili and just before half time Victoria once again threatened Xewkija’s defence with a strike by Joseph Buhagiar that was saved by goalie Mark Grima.

On 59 minutes Xewkija increased their lead when Darko Krstic entered Victoria’s area and form his pass Gennaro Hili surprised goalie Matthew Towns with a fine lob from an angled position.  Four minutes later The Wanderers were dangerous through a low shot by Joseph Buhagiar that was well saved by goalie Mark Grima but on 66 minutes Xewkija scored their fifth goal when Darko Krstic took the ball inside Victoria’s small area following a low cross by Shaun Bajada and the striker concluded in goal with a fine back-heel.  Victoria were rewarded for their efforts with the first goal that arrived on 69 minutes through Aud-gustine James Obaje following a corner kick by Anthony George Attard.  Xewkija replied one minute later with an attempt by Daniel Bogdanovic that was blocked by goalie Matthew Towns.  On 71 minutes the Wanderers scored their second goal when a cross by Aud-gustine James Obaje arrived to an unmarked James William Meilak, who took the field of play as a substitute, and the latter fired in goal form close distance.  Minutes later Xewkija’s substitute Thomas Vella had a good shot that ended just high and on 87 minutes Xewkija’s other substitute Jake Saliba had another good attempt that also just missed the target.  On 90 minutes the Wanderers were unlucky when as strike form long distance by Moussa Bamba hit the crossbar and in the second minute of stoppage time the Citizens could have scored the third goal wut a low drive aimed to the far post by Ajibade Adesina ended just wide.
