SUMMARY

Oratory Youths registered their first win in the campaign from their match against St Lawrence Spurs so that the Youths obtained their second consecutive positive result from two matches of the campaign.  The match between Oratory and St Lawrence lived up to the expectations as both sides were aiming to obtain the win. St Lawrence were coming from a defeat in the opening match while the Youths only managed to earn a point from their first match of the second division league.  With this result the Spurs remain without a point from two matches, while the Youths took leadership on the table. Oratory’s win matured from two penalties and were also rewarded for a positive performance at their defensive department where they managed to neutralise St Lawrence’s reaction.

TIMELINE

For most of the time play was rather balanced where the two sides showed some limitations in attack as they both found it very difficult to create serious scoring opportunities.

9’ Oratory could have scored an early goal when a cross by Bartomeu Perello Palou arrived to Sintayehu Curmi who had his close ranged attempt blocked with difficulty by goalie Angelo Brignoli.

18’ (1-0) St Lawrence opened the score through a curling shot from the left-hand side of Zebbug’s area by Charlon Farrugia that surprised Oratory’s goalie Richard Sammut.

32’ Oratory’s first serious attempt at goal arrived through a strike by Bartomeu Perello Palou that was saved to a corner by St Lawrence’s keeper Angelo Brignoli.

38’ (penalty) Oratory were awarded a penalty for a foul by St Lawrence’s skipper Daniel Micallef on Chris Borg, who was turning inside the area after receiving from Eric Gauci.

38’ (1-1) Oratory’s Bartomeu Perello Palou had his shot from the spot kick that was partially saved by St Lawrence’s keeper Angelo Brignoli and from the rebound the same Spanish striker netted with a low shot.

41’ Bartomeu Perello Palou arrived in an ideal position within St Lawrence’s area but the striker hit badly and the ball ended wide.

42’ St Lawrence’s keeper Angelo Brignoli was called to make a difficult save to turn to a corner a header by Eric Gauci following a cross by Sintayehu Curmi.

HT (1-1)

Oratory maintained their momentum after the break and kept their pressure on St Lawrence’s defence.

50’ goalie Angelo Brignoli was well placed to neutralise an attempt by Oratory’s Bartomeu Perello Palou following a personal action.

52’ St Lawrence replied with a strike by Christian Azzopardi that missed the target.

55’ Oratory’s striker Chris Borg heade wide from close distance a cross by Bartomeu Perello Palou.

16’ (penalty) Oratory awarded a second penalty in this match when Daniel Micallef pushed Oratory’s Bartomeu Perello Palou who came face to face with the goalkeeper.

17’ (1-2) Bartomeo Perello Palou netted with his low shot from the spot kick.

Oratory administered their lead as St Lawrence became confused in their efforts to save the result.

90+6’ The Spurs went closest to save the result when the ball was cleared badly from Oratory’s area following a free kick by Charlon Farrugia, and at the end the strike by Matthias Michael Uzor ended just over the crossbar.

FT (1-2)
