SUMMARY

Ghajnsielem scored two goals in each half in their match from the Preliminary Round of the BOV GFA Cup against second division side Qala Saints so that they earned a place with the last eight teams in the competition.  In this match, Ghajnsielem scored a goal during the early stages of the encounter and practically put their minds at rest with the second goal that arrived before the break. In the quarter-final stage Ghajnsielem will now meet Kercem Ajax.

TIMELINE

Ghajnsielem imposed their superiority from the early stages and Qala struggled for most of the time to keep the danger away from the area.

4’ Qala created the first serious action at goal when Mohammed Senussi Telessi came face to face with Ghajnsielem’s goalie but the latter managed to block the danger and the defence cleared the ball from the danger area.

5’ (1-0) Ghajnsielem opened the score through a curling shot towards the far post by Nemanja Stojanovic, from a dubious offside position, following a pass by Kurt Grima.

8’ Ghajnsielem went again close to scoring but a shot by Jhon Arboleda Valencia from an angled position ended on the side of the net.

12’ Qala replied through a header by Mohammed Senussi Telessi from a corner kick by Christoph Caruana that ended high.

22’ A shot by Ghajnsielem’s Alberto Xuereb from a good position ended wide.

30’ Qala’s keeper Franco Buttigieg saved in time a low cross by Alberto Xuereb and with his intervention he denied Kurt Grima from concluding on goal from close distance.

38’ (2-0) Ghajnsielem’s Kurt Grima entered the area from the right flank and from his low cross Jhon Arboleda Valencia concluded in goal with a low shot.

40’ The Blacks could have added another goal but a shot by Jhon Arboleda Valencia ended on the side of the net.

HT (2-0)

Ghajnsielem continued to dictate matters after the break.

51’ (3-0) Michael Bezzina delivered the ball inside Qala’s area and Kurt Grima hit towards goal with a low shot before Qala’s keeper could block the danger.

57’ Qala’s goalie Franco Buttigieg partially saved an attempt by Michael Bezzina and form the rebound Jhon Arboleda Valencia’s low drive ended wide.

75’ (4-0) Michael Bezzina passed with a backheel to Alberto Xuereb inside Qala’s area and the latter placed easily in goal with a fine shot.

86’ Ghajnsielem could have added another goal when Jhon Arboleda Valencia entered Qala’s area with a personal action but his low shot addressed to the far post ended just wide.

FT (4-0)
