SUMMARY

Oratory Youths earned three deserved points from a 5-2 win over bottom-placed Munxar Falcons so that they remain the only challengers to the current leaders for promotion.  Oratory produced the better play throughout the encounter and paved the way to the handsome win with three goals scored during the opening half hour of play. Munxar struggled to control play and suffered Oratory’s offensive play so that they ended up committing crucial mistakes at their defence that compromised the possibility to earn a positive result from this encounter.

TIMELINE

Oratory took command of play form the early stages of the encounter but had a phase of destruction near the end of the first half so that could have allowed their opponents to remain in contention.

12’ Munxar created the first serious scoring opportunity through a header by Ayesller Carvalho that was saved with some difficulty by Oratory’s keeper Richard Sammut.

13’ (1-0) Oratory opened the score through a free kick form long distance by Justin Azzopardi that ended in goal despite the attempt of the goalkeeper to clear the danger.

18’ (2-0) Oratory doubled the score when Munxar’s rear guard failed to clear the ball from the goalmouth following a corner kick by Marco Ciangura and the ball arrived at the far post and Chris Borg pushed the ball in goal from close distance.

28’ (3-0) Oratory’s Marco Ciangura released Bartomeu Perello Palou on the right flank and the latter entered the area and placed in goal with a low drive as goalie Frankie Azzopardi left his position in an attempt to block the  danger.

30’ (3-1) penalty – Munxar were awarded a penalty for handling by Paul Rapa and Ayesller Carvalaho converted from the spot kick.

31’  Munxar could have re-opened the issue but a strike but Luke Attard was stopped by the post and the defence continued to clear the danger.

HT (3-1)

The Youths continued to enjoy supremacy for most of the second period.

46’ (4-1)  Oratory regained a three-goal lead after just 48 seconds of play into the second period when Marco Ciangura released Bartomeu Perello Palou and the latter delivered a cross inside the area so that Chris Borg followed the action and netted with a low shot on the run

47’  Oratory were again dangerous but a low shot by Chris Borg was saved to a corner by Munxar’s keeper Frankie Azzopardi.

50’ (4-2)  Munxar scored their second goal through a shot from a closed angled by Ayesller Carvalho following a personal action.
