SUMMARY

Qala Saints ended a long stretch where they conceded four consecutive defeats with a 2-0 win over bottom placed Munxar Falcons.  Qala’s win matured with two goals scored during the first period but the result could have been with a larger margin as the Maroons prevailed over their opponents throughout the encounter.  With the points obtained Qala gained a place on the table at the expense of Zebbug Rovers, while Munxar, who were coming from a win in their previous match of the campaign, remain at the bottom place on the table.  The hero for Qala in this match was their Brazilian striker Felipe Augusto De Oliveira who marked his debut by scoring the two goals that decided the issue.

Qala came out more aggressive for this last m,atch from Match-Day 7 of the campaign.

7’ a shot by Qala’s Stefan Farrugia from a good position ended wide.

11’ Munxar replied through a header by Cleiton Jose Hinrichs that ended just high.

13’ Qala’s Joseph Owen Borg had an attempt from a good position, after receiving from Felipe Augusto De Oliviera, ended wide.

16’ (0-1) Qala opened the score with a low shot directly from a free kick by Felipe Augusto de Oliviera.

18’  Munxar’s defence failed to clear the ball from their area and the ball arrived to Felipe Augusto De Oliviera who concluded wide.

32’ Munxar created a good scoring opportunity through a close ranged shot by Cleiton Jose Hinrichs that was saved with difficulty by goalie Omar Xuereb.

42’ (0-2)  Qala doubled the score when a cross by Frank Azzopardi, arrived to Felipe Augusto De Oliviera who headed the ball in goal.

44’ Qala went again close to scoring through a strike by Felipe Augusto De Oliviera that was partially saved by Munxar’s keeper Frankie Azzopardi but from the rebound Stefan Farrugia concluded incredibly wide from an ideal position.

After the break Qala continued to dictate matters but they were often erratic in their finishing so that the actions at goal were rare.

20’ Munxar went close to scoring through a curling shot by Luke Cilia that was saved with difficulty to a corner by Qala’s keeper Omar Xuereb.

30’ (red card) Munxar ended with a player less on the field when Peter Debono was sent off for stopping Stefan Farrugia from entering alone in the area.

36’ In another good action by Qala substitute Christoph Caruana has an attempt that was blocked by the defence and from the rebound the effort by Stefan Farrugia was deflected to a corner.

39’ Qala went very close to score the third goal but a strike by Peter Muscat was stopped by the crossbar and from the rebound Stefan Farrugia concluded wide.

43’ Qala’s last opportunity to score another goal a low strike by Felipe Augusto De Oliviera ended just wide.
