SUMMARY

Nadur Youngsters registered their eighth win in a row in the championship with the 3-1 victory over bottom placed SK Victoria Wanderers.  With this result Nadur remain with maximum points on the table and also defended their five point lead over their closest rivals for the title at the end of Match-Day 8 of the BOV Gozo Football League of the first division.  As expected Nadur had territorial supremacy throughout the encounter but during the first period they failed to capitalise from their best scoring opportunities so that the Wanderers remained in contention for a positive result during the first hour of play.  However, Nadur scored two goals in the space of one minute as a reaction to Victoria’s equaliser and practically made sure of the full points at stake.

TIMELINE

Nadur took command of play from the early stages of the encounter so that the Wanderers were forced to defend their area with several players.

1’ Nadur’s Chris Camilleri has a fine shot form an angled position that ended just over the crossbar.

2’ The Youngsters were again dangerous through a strike by Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz from outside the area that ended high.

6’ In another dangerous offensive action by Nadur a shot on the run by Chris Camilleri ended just wide.

7’ Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz controlled a difficult ball inside Victoria’s area, the ball was deflected by a defender, with protests from Nadur alleging handling, and the ball arrived to Brandon Said who saw his close ranged attempt that was stopped by the crossbar.

11’ SK Victoria Wanderers replied with a potential dangerous action when a shot by Njongo Doding Priso following a free kick, was blocked by Nadur’s defence but the ball was cleared to a corner by Chris Camilleri before Victoria’s Moussa Bamba could hit towards goal from close distance.

13’ Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz produce a personal action within Victoria’s territory and as he was approaching the area the ball got a deflection by a defender and arrived to Chris Camilleri who tried to surprise Victoria’s keeper with a first timer but the ball ended wide.

31’ Nadur were once again unlucky as an attempt by Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz was stopped by the crossbar and from the rebound Victoria’s defence failed to clear the ball from the small area so that a low shot by Brandon Said from the resultant melee was cleared to a corner with difficulty by goalie Giacomo Ratto, who was making a return for the Wanderers after two seasons.

32’ Nadur protested for a penalty when skipper Shaun Attard ended on the floor inside Victoria’s area following a challenge with central defender Moussa Bamba.

44’ In another dangerous action by Nadur a low shot by Marcelo Barbosa was well saved by Victoria’s keeper Giacomo Barbosa.

45’+1’ Victoria’s defence cleared badly the ball from a corner action and from the resultant counter-cross a header by Luke Tabone ended wide.

Nadur maintained their momentum after the break and kept insisting to open the score.

7’ (1-0) Nadur opened the score when Chris Camilleri defended the ball inside Victoria’s area and from his low inviting cross Marcelo Barbosa concluded easily in goal with a tap-in.

11’ Nadur could have doubled the score when Victoria’s defence cleared badly so that the ball arrived to Marcelo Barbosa who had his low shot well saved by goalie Giacomo Ratto.

12’ The same goalkeeper was well placed to save another attempt by Nadur’s Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz.

15’ (1-1) penalty – The Wanderers were awarded a penalty when a shot by Steve Dimech was handled inside Nadur’s area by central defender Luke Tabone and Njongo Doding Priso converted form the spot kick to make it 1-1.

18’ (2-1) Nadur had an immediate reaction and regained the lead from an own goal committed by Victoria’s Igor Misan who headed badly a free kick form long distance by Chris Camilleri.

19’ (3-1) The Wanderers were shocked and Nadur added another goal through a fine shot form the edge of the area by Shaun Attard that ended out of the reach of Victoria’s keeper.

24’ Nadur continued to insit for more goals and a shot by Chris Camilleri was saved with some difficulty by goalie Giacomo Ratto.

31’ The same goalkeeper was again called to make a difficult intervention to save a close ranged header by substitute Johan Alberto Castano following a cross by Gennaro Hili.

33’ Nadur’s Gennaro Hili delivered a ball inside the small area from the corner kick but substitute Jordi Parnis saw his header that ended wide.

35’ Victoria could have reduced the deficit but a lob from outside Nadur’s area by substitute Gabriel Cardona was saved with some difficulty by goalie Steve Sultana.

38’ Nadur lost another good scoring opportunity when Johan Alberto Castano hit badly from an ideal position following a cross by substitute Daniel Farrugia and the ball ended wide.
