Ghajnsielem retained their status as challengers for the title with another positive performance in the match against Kercem Ajax.  The Blacks obtained the full points at stake form a 3-0 win that matured with a goal scored midway through the first period and two other goals that arrived during the first part of the second period.  With this result Ghajnsielem moved to the second place on the table with just two points behind leaders Xewkija Tigers.

For this match Kercem were aiming to obtain a positive result in an attempt to recover from the defeat conceded in their previous match and also to increase their lead over the teams who are currently in the red zone of the table.  The Ajax managed to share play with their more quoted opponents during the opening minutes of the match but as time passed by Ghajnsielem took control of the midfield, opened the score and took the driving seat until the end of the encounter.  The main protagonist in this match was undoubtedly Ghajnsielem’s striker Igor Nedeljkovic who scored the three goals for his side and was also a continuous threat to Kercem’s defence.  Nedeljkpovic is now leading the top-scorer table with seven goals from four matches.

Timeline

During the opening minutes Kercem seemed more motivated and created opportunities where they could have opened the score.  However, Ghajnsielem recovered well and ended up taking control of play particularly after taking the lead midway through the first half.

8’ Kercem ‘s Samuel Saldanha received the ball inside Ghajnsielem’s area but his shot was blocked to a corner by the defence.

12’ Ghajnsielem replied through a free kick by Igor Nedeljkovic thsat missed the target.

15’ Kercem could have created more danger when Ghajnsielem’s defence failed to clear a cross form the right flank and the ball arrived to an unmarked Jason Theuma who hit badly and the ball ended wide.

18’ Ghajnsielem had a low shot, after receiving from Michael Bezzina, that ended just wide.

20’ In another good action by the Blacks a shot from outside the area by Joseph George Vella got a defelction by the defence and from the resultant corner action, Ghajnsielem kept pressure on Kercem’s defence and at the end a low shot by Michael Bezzina was stopped by the base of the post.

21’ (0-1) Ghajnsielem opened the score when Johnny Camilleri released Igor Nedeljkovic who entered the area and placed in goal with a low drive.

24’ Ghajnsielem were again dangerous through an initiative by Joseph George Vella who passed to Johnny Camilleri but the latter concluded wide form a good position.

29’ Kercem had their best opportunity to level the score when Samuel Saldanha entered Ghajnsielem’s area with a personal action but was pressed by a direct opponent so that his final shot was blocked by the goalkeeper and the ball bounced back on the striker and ended wide.

45+1’ The same striker had a good shot that was neutralised in two attempts by Ghajnsielem’s keeper Adrian Parnis

For the second period Kercem’s reaction was sterile and Ghajnsielem continued to hold control of play.

7’ (0-2) Ghajnsielem doubled the score when Igor Nedeljokovic passed to Joseph George Vella at the edge of the area but the latter had his shot that was partially saved by goalie Gaetano Bugeja.  Johnny Camilleri took the ball from the rebound and his low drive arrived to Igor Nedeljkovic who tunred the ball into an open goal.

19’ Ghajnsielem were again dangerous when Alberto Xuereb delivered a low cross inside Kercem’s area and Igor Nedeljokovic converted in the net but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement.

20’ Kercem’s goalie Gaetano Bugeja was again called to make a good intervention to save a low shot by Jhon Arboleda Valencia following a personal action.

22’ (0-3) Ghajnsielem scored their third goal when Joseph George Vella released Igor Nedeljkovic from the midfield.  The latter managed to win the ball following a challenge with his direct opponent, entered Kercem’s territory and surprised the goalkeeper with a fine shot.  The goal as followed by protests from |kerrcem who alleged a foul in the midfield before the Blacks took possession in the action that led to the goal.

Ghajnsielem redued their pressure and for some time Kercem came out of their defence and could have created more danger on at least two separate occasions through corner actions but headers by Camilo Andres Babilonia ended wide.

37’ Ghajnsielem’s keeper Adrian Parnis left his position in time to block the danger as Samuel Saldanha entered the area with a personal action.

38’ Kercem’s goalkeeper Gaetano Bugeja denied Ghajnsielem form scoring another goal when he left his position to take the ball from Jhon Arboleda Valencia who entered the area following a personal action.

40’ In another dangerous action by the Blacks, Igor Nedeljkovic passed from the left flank, delivered a low cross towards the goalmouth but the shot on the run by Jhon Arboleda Valencia got a deflection to a corner by the defence.

45’ Ghajnsielem were unlucky when Igor Nedeljkovic passed to Jhon Arboleda Valencia at the edge of the area but the latter had his first timer that was stopped by the crossbar.
