St Lawrence Spurs maintained their challenge for promotion and co-leadership with Gharb Rangers, with a large win over bottom placed Zebbug Rovers.  St Lawrence dominated over their opponents throughout the encounter and paved the way to the victory with two goals scored during the first period.  In this match their striker Mohammed Senussi Telessi scored a brace and with these goals he remain serious contender for the top scorer of the category with Sannat’s Sunday Baala.

The Spurs had a good start and opened the score on 10 minutes when Marlon Mamo took the ball from Zebbug’s defence following some hesitation by the defenders to clear the ball from outside the area and the striker entered the area and placed in goal with a low shot.  One minute later the Saints could have doubled the score when Christopher Cauchi came face to face with Zebbug’s keeper from a dubious position but the latter saved the danger to a corner.  From the resultant corner action St Lawrence’s Charles Mercieca had his header cleared off the fatal line by Omar Calleja with the goalkeeper beaten.  Zebbug failed to produce a reaction and on 27 minutes the Spurs increased their lead through a shot on the run from close distance by Christopher Cauchi following an inviting low cross by Jason Theuma.  On the half hour mark St Lawrence operate a fast break through Jason Portelli who released Mohammed Senussi Telessi but the latter had his curling shot addressed to the far post that ended just wide.  St Lawrence were again dangerous on 41 minutes when Mohammed Senussi Telessi produced a counter break and released Marlon Mamo inside Zebbug’s area but the latter had his attempt saved to a corner by Zebbug-s goalie Baskal Saliba.  The striker and the goalkeeper both remained injured in this action and had to be substituted although Zebbug’s goal was protected for the rest of the match by George Portelli.

St Lawrence practically made sure of the three points with the third goal that arrived in the third minute of play of the second period through Jason Theuma.  The match lost much of the interest in the last part as Zebbug continued to struggle to keep the danger away from their area.  St Lawrence added another goal on 75 minutes through Mohammed Senussi Telessi and Zebbug scored their consolation goal one minute later through an effort by Josef Debrincat.  In the dying moments the Spurs managed to score on another two occasions.  Mohammed Senussi Telessi scored the fifth goal for his side on 85 minutes and one minute later substitute Charlon Tabone made the final score 6-1.
