In the first match from match Day 4 of the championship, Victoria Hotspurs extended their perfect start with a win over SK Victoria Wanderers to register their fourth win from as many matches.  The Hotspurs also managed to keep a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive match and so far they have not conceded a goal in the championship.  In this derby match the Hotspurs expressed their superiority over their opponents in terms of experience and quality of the finishing by the strikers.  Otherwise, the Wanderers shared play with their more quoted opponents for long stretches and kept insisting to re-open the issue until the final stages.  The Hotspurs might have been over confident in their approach to this match and as a result they failed to hold command of play.  The Hotspurs however confirmed the strength of their defensive department as they denied the Wanderers from converting their play into good scoring opportunities.  On the other hand the Hotspurs capitalised from two partial saves by the goalkeeper during the dying moments of the first half to score the two goal that at the end made all the difference.

The Hotspurs as expected tried to impose their play over their opponents from the very beginning and created two action which could have been more threatening.  On 7 minutes an attempt by Elton Da Silva missed the target and on 16 minutes a header by Chris Camilleri from a good position, following a cross by Elton Da Silva, ended wide.  The Wanderers grew in confidence as time passed by and on 20 minutes Nicolas Abot received an inviting ball at the edge of the area but hesitated to conclude and the defence cleared the danger.  Four minutes later the Wanderers had an attempt through Predrag Dordevic from outside the area but the ball ended over the crossbar and two minutes later the Hotspurs replied through a strike by Elton Da Silva that got a deflection from Chris Camilleri, who was in an offside position, but the ball hit the post.  On 29 minutes the Hotspurs produced another good action but Emiliano Lattes had his shot well saved by goalie Leonard Camilleri.  The Wanderers had their best scoring opportunity of the first half on 33 minutes when Nicolas Abot produced a counter break but his low drive ended wide.  Three minutes later a header by Lawrence Grima following a corner action ended just over the Wanderers’ goal and on 38 minutes the Hotspurs once again threatened their opponents through a strike by Emiliano Lattes that missed the target.  Two minutes later the Wanderers produced a prolonged action inside Victoria Hotspurs’ area but at the end Aaron Touarha’s shot from an ideal position ended wide.  The Hotspurs opened the score on 42 minutes when goalie Leonard Camilleri partially saved a low strike by Henrique Maciel and Chris Camilleri’s attempt from the rebound was blocked by defender Gabriel Diaz Valdiviezo, but the ball arrived to an unmarked Emiliano Lattes who fired in goal to resolve the resultant melee.  The Wanderers were shocked and the Hotspurs increased their lead with a second goal that arrived during the first minute of stoppage time before the break when a fine shot by Chris Camilleri was partially saved by goalie Leonard Camilleri and form the rebound Henrique Maciel concluded form an angled position.

After the break the Hotspurs seemed in the driving seat and started to administer play with authority.  On 48 minutes the hotspurs had a shot by Chris Canilleri that ended wide and on 58 minutes the Wanderers were dangerous through a header by Gabriel Diaz Valdiviezo from a corner kick by Predrag Dordevic that ended just wide.  Four minutes later the Hotspurs threatened their opponents from a free kick by Chris Camilleri that ended high and on 68 minutes the Wanderers could have created more danger but a low shot by Sam Harland was weak and easily neutralised by goalie Adrian Parnis.  On 74 minutes the Hotspurs almost scored the third goal when Christian Mercieca produced a fine move inside the area but his attempt was cleared from the goalmouth by Gabriel Diaz Valdiviezo.  Two minutes later Elton Da Silva took the ball following some hesitation by the Wanderers to clear the ball from their area but the goalkeeper was well placed and blocked the danger.  During the final stages the Wanderers tried to increase their efforts and on 79 minutes a shot by Ian Xuereb following a short clearance form a free kick ended wide.  The last scoring opportunity for the Wanderers to reduce the deficit arrived on 90 minutes but a shot by Predrag Dordevic ended wide.
