In the last match from Match-Day twelve of the championship reigning champions Ghajnsielem retained their chances to defend the title won last season with an easy win over Victoria Hotspurs.  Ghajnsielem dominated play for long stretches and the final score could have been with more goals if it was not for a series of interventions by Victoria’s keeper Adrian Parnis who denied Ghajnsielem’s strikers from scoring on different occasions.  For this match Ghajnsielem had striker Renan Telles Pimenta who was making his debut in Gozitan football.  The striker had a positive impact and was a continuous threat to Victoria’s rear guard.  The Blacks paved the way to the victory with three goals scored during the first half and sealed the victory with a fourth goal scored during the final stages of the encounter.  Ghajnsielem ended the match on a negative note as they had central defender Jhon Jairo Sandoval Guarin sent off for a second caution.

In the sixth minute of play Ghajnsielem created a good scoring opportunity but the attempt by Renan Telles Pimenta ended just wide.  The Hotspurs replied two minutes later through a cross shot by Kevin Farrugia that was turned to a corner with some difficulty by goalie Luke Buttigieg and on 15 minutes Ghajnsielem broke the deadlock.  Emiliano Lattes released Chris Camilleri with a through pass form long distance and the latter fired in goal with a shot on the run that ended out of the reach of goalie Adrian Parnis.  Three minutes later Ghajnsielem’s Renan Telles Pimenta concluded weak from a good position and the goalkeeper saved without difficulty.  On 20 minutes the Blacks were awarded a penalty for a foul by the goalkeeper on Renan Telles Pimenta and Chris Camilleri doubled the score with his shot from the spot kick.  The Hotspurs replied on the half hour mark through a header by Eric Nwankwo from a cross by James Tabone that ended on top of the net.  One minute later Ghajnsielem’s Renan Telles Pimenta had a low shot that was saved by goalie Adrian Parnis and on 37 minutes the same striker scored the third goal for his side with a low shot that ended in the lower corner of Victoria’s goal.  Six minutes later a strike by Edison Bilboa Zarate was partially saved by Victoria’s keeper and from the rebound John Camilleri was stopped from concluding towards an open goal due to an offside position.

Victoria continued to find it difficult to control Ghajnsielem’s offensive play and on 48 minutes goalie Adrian Parnis had good timing to block a close ranged lob by Emiliano Lattes.  The Hotspurs replied on 58 minutes through a shot by Kevin Farrugia that missed the target and on 61 minutes Ghajnsielem’s Renan Telles Pimenta received an inviting pass from John Camilleri but the former concluded badly from a good position.  Four minutes later Victoria’s central defender Moussa Bamba cleared off the goalmouth a low cross by Renan tells Pimenta addressed to an unmarked John Camilleri and on 68 minutes Victoria’s goalie Adrian parnis was called to make another difficult save to deny John Camilleri from adding another goal by turning the close ranged attempt following a pass by substitute Kenny Hili to a corner.  From the resultant corner action the same goalkeeper made another good intervention to block the shot by Chris Camilleri.  One minute later the Hotspurs had a good attempt by Denis Sytnik that was well saved by goalie Luke Buttigieg.  On 71 minutes Ghajnsielem’s Kenneth Mercieca released Renan Telles Pimenta inside Victoria’s area but the latter managed to block the danger but from the rebound the ball arrived to John Camilleri who had his attempt with an open goal at his mercy that was topped by the crossbar.  One minute later the same goalkeeper was again called to make a difficult save to neutralise an attempt by Damon Hili but Ghajnsielem scored their fourth goal on 79 minutes through a low shot by Emiliano Lattes after receiving from Chris Camilleri, with the ball hitting the post before ending in goal.  Victoria continued to suffer pressure during the final stages of the encounter and on 84 minutes Moussa Bamba cleared form the goalmouth a shot by Kenny Hili with the goalkeeper out of his position.  Three minutes later the Blacks were reduced to ten players when central defender Jhon Jairo Sandoval Guarin was sent off for a second caution.  On 88 minutes Ghajnsielem’s Chris Camilleri had a good attempt that ended inches wide and in the 90th minute Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis made another difficult intervention to turn to a corner a low shot by Chris Camilleri so that the result remained unchanged until the final whistle.
