Ghajnsielem confirmed their good moment of form and obtained another good win with a large score from their match against bottom placed Xaghra United.  Despite the large margin between the two sides and the fact that Ghajnsielem deserved the victory, Xaghra tried hard to produce offensive play against more quoted opponents.  However, Xaghra were often erratic in their finishing and were often punished for mistakes at their defence due to their lack of experience.

The match therefore turned out into an interesting encounter with good scoring opportunities at the two ends of the field.  Ghajnsielem paved the way to the win with two goals scored during the first period and three other goals scoring in the last part of the encounter.  Ghajnsielem’s John Camilleri and Chris Camilleri were the protagonists for the Blacks by scoring a brace each.  With the points obtained the reigning champions took full advantage of the defeat conceded by Nadur and took the second spot on the table.

Xaghra were more offensive in their paly during the opening minutes of the encounter and on the fifth minute they could have opened the score but Michael Bezzina’s lob following a pass by Gerald Tushe ended just high.  One minute later Ghajnsielem replied through a header by Renan Telles Pimenta following a cross by John Camilleri that ended wide and on 9 minutes Xaghra’s Nikola Vitorovic had a good attempt from an angled position that missed the target.  In the following minutes Ghajnsielem’s Renan Telles Pimenta on two separate occasions had shots that were neutralised by goalie Daniel Galea and on 14 minutes the same goalkeeper was called to make a difficult intervention to block another strike by Telles.  Ghajnsielem kept insisting during a good patch of play midway through the first half and n 21 minutes a shot by Emiliano Lattes following a personal action ended wide.  Two minutes later Xaghra’s goalkeeper and his central defender failed to communicate to neutralise a weak long ranged cross and from the resultant mishap the ball arrived to Renan Telles Pimenta who had his attempt blocked by Xaghra’s keeper to a corner.  Ghajnsielem broke the deadlock on 25 minutes through a close ranged header by John Camilleri following a cross from the left flank by Renan Telles Pimenta.  Xaghra tried to produce an immediate reaction and three minutes later a shot from an angled position by Michael Bezzina was deflected to a corner by central defender Ferdinadno Apap and from the resultant corner a shot by Gerald Tushe passed across Ghajnsielem’s goal but there was no strike ready for the tap-in.  The Blacks doubled the score on 29 minutes when Chris Camilleri released Emiliano Lattes and the latter entered the area and netted with a low drive.  Xaghra replereplied5 minutes through a free kick by Antonio Laskov that was cleared off the goalmouth by Ghajnsielem’s Ferdinando Apap and in the following action the Blacks were dangerous through a shot by Emiliano Lattes that ended high.

During the opening stages of the second period Xaghra kept insisting in an attempt to re-open the issue.  On 48 minutes Nikola Vitorovic had a shot following a personal action that ended high and on 59 minutes Ghajnsielem were dangerous through an attempt by Renan Telles Pimenta that was blocked by goalie Daniel Galea.  The two sides continued to produce scoring opportunities in the following minutes.  On 62 minutes a free kick by Ghajnsielem’s Edison Bilboa Zarate arrived to an unmarked Chris Camilleri but the later hit badly with a first timer and the ball ended away from goal, while Michael Bezzina had a cross shot on 64 minutes that was saved by Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg.  Xaghra’s goalie Daniel Galea was called to make a difficult intervention on 68 minutes following a strike by Chris Camilleri from a short corner action but on 74 minutes Ghajnsielem increased their lead when John Camilleri noted Xaghra’s keeper out of his position and the striker lobbed into an open goal from long distance.  Xaghra threw the towel and the Blacks dominated play for the rest of the encounter.  On 79 minutes a shot from an angled position by Renan Telles Pimenta was blocked to a corner by goalie Daniel Galea.  One minute later Ghajnsielem scored their fourth goal when John Camilleri passed to Chris Camilleri who fired in goal with a low strike from outside the area.  On 87 minutes Xaghra’s keeper Daniel Galea blocked an effort by John Camilleri and on the stroke of regular time Ghajnsielem’s Chris Camilleri sealed the victory by scoring the fifth goal with another spectacular shot from outside the area that was out of the reach of Xaghra’s goalie and ended in goal.
