St Lawrence Spurs earned three precious points from their match against Sannat Lions and with the points obtained they moved to the top of the table.  With this result they now need just a point from their last match of the campaign, against direct contenders for promotion Gharb Rangers, to win the title and promotion.  St Lawrence’s win matured with two goals scored during the last part of the encounter as Sannat remained in contention to obtain a positive result until they suffered the second goal.

St Lawrence could have opened the score in the second minute of play when Mohammed Senussi Telessi had an attempt form close distance that was blocked by goalie Angelo Brignoli.  Sannat replied through a shot by Joseph Zammit that ended just over the crossbar and in a separate occasion a strike by Sannat’s Sunday Baala missed the target.  On 12 minutes the same striker Sunday Baala had another attempt that was well saved by goalie Elliott Fenech.  In the following action St Lawrence were dangerous through a back heel by Mohammed Senussi Telessi from close distance that ended wide.  On 23 minutes St Lawrence’s Charles Mercieca had a good header following a corner kick by James Grima that ended just wide and four minutes later the Spurs were awarded a penalty for a foul by goalie Angelo Brignoli  on Mohammed Senussi Telessi but Jason Portelli’s shot from the spot kick ended wide.  St Lawrence however opened the score on 31 minutes through a header by Charles Mercieca from a corner kick by Jason Portelli that ended in goal despite the attempts of goalie Angelo Brignoli and defender Omar Xuereb to clear the ball off the fatal line.

Sannat increased their pressure after the break but they did not manage to create good scoring opportunities.  The Spurs took advantage of the gaps at Sannat’s rearguard and became more dangerous through counter break.  On 55 minutes St Lawrence’s Mohammed Senussi Telessi came face to face with Sannat’s keeper but the latter saved the danger.  On 62 minutes Sannat’s Joseph Zammit had an attempt that was neutralised by goalie Elliott Fenech and one minute later the Spurs replied through an attempt by Marlon Mamo that was saved by Sannat’s keeper Angelo Brignoli.  On 68 minutes Mohammed Senussi Telessi had a fine header following a cross from the right flank that was saved in two attempts by Sannat’s goalie Angelo Brignoli.  St Lawrence doubled the score on 72 minutes when substitute Charlon Tabone entered Sannat’s territory from the right flank but had his low shot partially saved by goalie Angelo Brignoli and form the rebound Mohammed Senussi Telessi fired in goal with a shot on the run.  Sannat were demoralised and St Lawrence sealed the victory with a third goal that arrived on 83 minutes from a penalty, awarded for handling by Daniel Borg, and converted by Mohammed Senussi Telessi.
