Dene Shields (Xewkija Tigers) wins award for January 2017

Xewkija Tigers’ Scottish Forward Dene Shields is the BOV GFA Player of the Month for January 2017.

Dene scored the deciding goal in Xewkija’s 1-0 win over SK Victoria Wanderers as well as the second goal when beating Xaghra United 2-0 to maintain their top spot in the BOV GFA 1st Division League.

Thirty-four year old Shields has established himself in the role of Xewkija’s main goal-getter and the Christmas break seems to have spurred him into his top form, as he looks to propel Xewkija to Gozo football’s top title this season. Shields has won every major award in Gozitan football where he was also the league’s top scorer for two consecutive seasons between 2012 and 2014.

Horace Laudi, Gozo Regional Manager at Bank of Valletta presented the BOV GFA Player of the Month trophy for January 2017 to Shields in front of the Xewkija Tigers team and officials. Shields chose Fondazzjoni Arka to benefit from the donation associated with this award.
