Munxar Falcons earned their third consecutive win in the campaign in their match against Xaghra United and extended their leadership to three points and a game in hand. Before this match the two sides were unbeaten from their previous two matches in the campaign and therefore both Munxar and Xaghra were aiming to confirm the positive start. Minutes later Munxar’s Michael Matthias Uzor produced a personal action within Xaghra’s area but his shot from a good position ended high. The same striker had another attempt on 20 minutes that ended wide and one minute later Xaghra opened the score against the run of play when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Keith Borg on Johan Bajada and Manuel Galea converted from the spot kick. Munxar replied on 25 minutes through an attempt by Frank Attard that ended wide and two minutes later Xaghra’s goalie Victor Agius was well placed to partially save a shot from close distance by Oliver Curmi. From the same action the ball arrived to Munxar’s Jordi Parnis and from his cross the ball arrived to an unmarked Michael Matthias Uzor who levelled the score with a header that was out of the reach of the goalkeeper. On 36 minutes Xaghra were reduced to ten players when Daniel Bartolo was sent off for a second caution and Munxar took immediate advantage of the extra player on the field of play. Two minutes later the Falcons turned the result in their favour through a low shot by Frank Attard following a cross by Oliver Curmi. On 42 minutes Munxar could have added another goal but a shot by Michael Matthias Uzor following a cross by Frank Attard hit the post.
After the resumption Munxar continued to dictate matter and on 47 minutes they increased their lead through a low shot by Michael Matthias Uzor following a cross by Frank Attard. Three minutes later a shot by Oliver Curmi from another good initiative by Frank Attard was well saved by Xaghra’s keeper and on 52 minutes a strike by Michael Matthias Uzor ended just wide from Xaghra’s goal. In another dangerous action by Munxar minutes later Frank Attard and Michael Matthias Uzor combined another good move within Xaghra’s territory but the latter saw his lob towards an open goal that ended wide. The same two players created other danger on separate occasions in the following minutes but on 64 minutes Munxar managed to score the fourth goal through a low shot by Oliver Curmi following a fine move by Jordi Parnis where he passed around two defenders inside the area before offering the ball to the scorer. On 82 minutes Xaghra’s keeper Victor Agius denied Munxar’s Jordi Parnis from scoring with a fine save to turn the ball to a corner and on 86 minutes the referee awarded a penalty to Munxar for a foul by Xaghra’s substitute Silvan Bonello on Munxar’s substitute Roberto Sammut and Michael Matthias Uzor registered his personal hat trick and made it 5-1 with his shot from the spot kick.
