Contenders for promotion St Lawrence Spurs dropped two precious points when they were held to a draw by Qala Saints.  This was also the first point obtained by Qala in the campaign.  The Spurs failed to prevail over their less quoted opponents and for some patches they also suffered the pressure produced by the Maroons.  As a result the match turned out into an interesting encounter where victory could have gone either way.

Qala had a good start and in the fifth minute of play they were dangerous through a free kick by Micharel Mumford that ended just over the crossbar.  On 15 minutes the Spurs replied through a shot by Stefan Cauchi from a good position that also ended high and on 22 minutes Qala went again close to scoring but a header by Joseph Buttigieg from a free kick by Michael Mumford ended high.  The Spurs opened the score on 37 minutes through a low shot by Mohammed Senussi Telessi who was unmarked in the area.  Qala replied two minutes later through a free kick by Michael Mumford that ended high and on 41 minute the Maroons levelled the score through a direct free kick from long distance by Michael Mumford that was out of the reach of goalie Nicholas Mercieca.  In the first minute of stoppage time before half time the Spurs had a good attempt directly from a free kick by Charlon Farrugia that was saved with difficulty by goalie Lorjean Xuereb.

In the second minute of play of the second period Qala went very close to scoring but Alain Marley Mukom Fotso concluded badly from close distance and the ball ended wide.  However, Qala’s efforts were rewarded one minute later when they turned the result in their favour through a shot form close distance by Jake Mifsud following a cross by Bernard Sammut.  The Spurs had a good reaction and on 55 minutes Stephan Cauchi took the ball from Qala’s defence but his attempt form an ideal position ended high.  On the hour mark Qala’s goalie Lorjean Xuereb left his position in time to deny Mohammed Senussi Telessi from concluding a fast break towards goal.  From the same action the ball arrived to Stephan Cauchi who had his lob towards an open goal that ended just wide.  On 68 minutes Qala could have increased their lead but an attempt by Bernard Sammut was saved by goalie Nicholas Mercieca.  St Lawrence clinched the equaliser on 81 minutes when a shot by Shaun Mizzi from a corner action was blocked by the defence and from the rebound Kenny Hili placed in goal with a low shot.
