Munxar Falcons recovered from two consecutive disappointing results and earned the full points at stake form their match against Sannat Lions.  The match between Munxar and Sannat was a top-of-the table clash as the two sides were occupying the first two places on the table and a victory for Sannat could have put the Lions as new leaders on the table.  However, Munxar seemed more motivated and prepared for this encountered.  They came out more aggressive and paved the way to the victory with three goals scored during the opening minutes of the match.  Sannat managed to recover during the final stages of the second period and were unlucky on two separate occasions as they had attempts stopped by the woodwork.  Munxar controlled play after the break and defended their two goal lead with authority until the final whistle.  With this result Munxar increased their lead at the top of the table and at this stage of the campaign they remain the hot favourites for promotion.

In the third minute of play Munxar could have opened the score but a direct free kick by Brian Meilak was well blocked by goalie Angelo Brignoli.  Munxar however took the lead two minutes later when Michael Miatthias Uzor won a tussle with Sannat’s keeper following a free kick form long distance, the striker turned around a defender and concluded in goal with a low shot with the ball hitting the base of the post before hitting the back of the net.  Sannat replied on 9 minutes through a counter break by Franci Kosova but Munxar’s keeper Liam Gatt left his position in time and cleared the ball from outside the area before the striker could arrive to conclude into an open goal.  On 15 minutes Munxar doubled the score through Jordi Parnis who placed in goal with a low drive towards the far post following a personal action that started from the right flank.  Sannat were shocked and on 17 minutes Munxar scored their third goal through a close ranged header by Oliver Curmi following a cross form the right flank by Christian Bugeja.  Munxar were again dangerous on 24 minutes but a free kick by Brian Meilak ended just high.  Sannat managed to recover from the difficult situation during the final minutes of the first half.  On 32 minutes a close ranged attempt by Frankie Camilleri was stopped by Munxar’s crossbar and two minutes later Sannat reduced the deficit through a header by Fabian Xuereb following a corner kick by Matthew Portelli.  In the remaining part of the first half Sannat went very close to score a second goal on at least two occasions.  On 35 minutes another attempt by Frankie Camilleri following a free kick was topped by the post and four minutes later Franci Kosova hit badly from close distance so that Munxar’s goalie Liam Gatt saved without difficulty.

Play during the second period was less intense as Munxar controlled play while Sannat found it extremely difficult to maintain their momentum that they gained during the final stages of the first half.  Munxar in the meantime operated mainly with counter breaks and on 75 minutes they were also dangerous when Michael Matthias Uzor unmarked Jordi Parnis inside Sannat’s area but the latter had his shot that ended on the side of the net.  Sannat tried to increase their efforts during the final stages of the match and on 80 minutes substitute Joseph Zammit entered Munxar’s area following a personal action but his low shot also ended on the side of the net.  Three minutes later Sannat’s other substitute Oliver Farrugia managed to arrive on the ball before goalie Liam Gatt but his attempt was cleared form the goalmouth by Munxar’s substitute Mark Debrincat.  On 85 minutes Munxar ended with ten players on the field when substitute Paul Parnis was sent off for a foul on Frankie Camilleri.  Sannat’s last opportunity to score the second goal arrived in the first minute of stoppage time when substitute Joseph Bonnici headed inside the area following a free kick by Simon Sultana, the ball arrived to an unmarked Antoine Camilleri but the latter hit badly and goalie Liam Gatt saved without difficulty.
