In the mast match of match-day eight of the championship Nadur Youngsters managed to defend their position on the table and also to remain very close to the current leaders with three hard-earned points earned from a 5-3 win over Kercem Ajax.  Nadur were surprised by Kercem during the opening stages of the encounter but managed to recover a two-goal deficit by scoring two goals in the space of one minute midway through the first half.  Nadur continued to struggle to take command of play even when they turned the result in their favour from an action that left Kercem with a player less on the field of play as the Ajax managed to score an equaliser.  Nadur however took the full advantage of the extra player during the final stages where they ended up scoring the two goals that decided the issue.

Kercem were more aggressive during the opening minutes and surprised their more quoted opponents in the fourth minute when Ognjen Rolovic entered Nadur’s area with a personal action and placed in goal with a low shot towards the far post.  Nadur replied on 8 minutes through an attempt from close distance by Brandon said following a cross by Josef Buttigieg but the ball shaved the crossbar and ended high.  On 16 minutes the same Brandon Said had a good attempt well saved by goalie Branko Vrndic and two minutes later Nadur had another shot through Shaun Attard that missed the target.  Kercem continued to be adventurous in their play and on 15 minutes Mario Mifsud could have concluded better from a good position after receiving from Ognjen Rolovic butt he shot ended away from Nadur’s goal.  Kercem doubled the score on 19 minutes when Andrew Mizzi won a ball on the right flank, entered the area and placed in goal with a low shot.  Nadur were not demoralised and in the following minutes they levelled the score with two quick goals.  On 21 minutes Dewide Dos Santos released Darko Krstic inside Kercem’s area and the latter placed in goal with a low shot.  Less than a minute later it was Darko Krstic who unmarked Dewide Dos Santos behind Kercem’s rear guard and the Brazilian striker placed in goal with a low drive when he was face to face with the goalkeeper.  Play became more exciting with actions at the two ends of the field.  On 26 minutes Kercem’s Elton Vella failed to connect to an inviting cross form the left flank by Ognjen Rolovic.  Kercem were again dangerous on 35 minutes through a strike by Jean Paul Mizzi following a corner action that was blocked in front of the goalmouth by Nadur’s central defender Sandro Muller when the goalkeeper was beaten so that the first half ended in a draw of four goals.

Kercem continued to seem more effective in their play after the break and on 52 minutes Andrew Mizzi produced a good personal action but goalie Matthew Muscat was well placed and managed to save the danger.  Four minutes later Nadur replied with a shot on the run by Darko Krsitic after receiving form Dewide Dos Santos that missed the target.  On 59 minutes Kercem’s central defender Petar Kyumyurdzhiev stopped Nadur’s Darko Krstic from entering the area.  Kercem ended up with ten players as Kyumyurdzhiev was sent off for the infringement and from the same free kick Nadur turned the result in their favour through the set-piece by Dewide Dos Santos.  Kercem however managed to share play in the following minutes despite playing with a player less on the field and on 68 minutes they also managed to level the score through a low shot from outside the area by Ognjen Rolovic that ended out of the reach of goalie Matthew Muscat.  Nadur however soon increased their efforts and took full advantage of the extra player on the field.  The Youngsters regained the lead on 71 minutes through a fine header by Dewide Dos Santos following a cross from the left flank by Daniel Farrugia.  Kercem’s best opportunity to save the result arrive on 82 minutes through a curling shot by Andrew Mizzi following a personal action that ended just high.  Nadur made sure of the victory by scoring the fifth goal on 85 minutes when Darko Krstic entered Kercem’s area from the right flank with a personal action and lobbed over the goalkeeper as soon as the latter left his position in an attempt to block the danger.
