Sannat Lions obtained a deserved win in their first match from the fourth and final round of the campaign against St Lawrence Spurs and with the points obtained they remain well attached to the leaders Munxar Falcons.  Sannat dominated over their opponents for long stretches and the victory could have easily been with a larger margin but the striker were often very erratic in their finishing so that the Spurs at some stages gave the impression that they were insisting to save the result.  This was Sannat’s fourth win over St Lawrence in the campaign.

Sannat had an excellent start and opened the score on 13 minutes when a shot by Mark Muscat was partially saved by goalie Luke Buttigieg and form the rebound Mohammed Senussi Telessi placed easily into an open goal.  St Lawrence failed to produce a reaction and on 18 minutes Sannat were again dangerous through an attempt by Mohammed Senussi Telessi that ended just wide.  One minute later the same Telessi had a low shot but the ball ended inches away from the post and on 36 minutes St Lawrence’s goalie was called to make a good save to hold a strike by Sannat’s Fabian Xuereb.  Four minutes later a shot by Mohammed Senussi Telessi was partially saved by St Lawrence’s keeper and near the end of the first half the same striker had two other attempts on separate occasions.  In the first attempt goalie Luke Buttigieg was well placed to save the danger while the second effort through a header ended just wide.

After the resumption Sannat continued to dictate matter and on 49 minutes Mohammed Senussi Telessi had a good shot from an angled position that ended wide.  Sannat doubled the score on 62 minutes when Mohammed Senussi Telessi passed just outside the area to Mark Muscat who surprised St Lawrence’s goalie with a first timer.  St Lawrence continued to find it very difficult to create danger inside Sannat’s area and as time passed by Sannat continued to produce scoring opportunities.  Sannat could have added at least another goal on two occasions but shots by Mark Muscat and Oliver Farrugia ended just wide from St Lawrence’s goal.  The Spurs had their best opportunity to score at least a goal in this match in the second minute of stoppage time but a good effort by substitute Stefan Cauchi was saved to a corner By Sannat’s keeper Owen Attard.

Referee: Joseph Scerri
