 MATCH REPORT

Nadur Youngsters retained their position on the table with the points obtained from a 4-2 win against SK Victoria Wanderers.  Nadur expressed their strong potential in attack in this match as they created serious danger to Victoria’s defense each time that Nadur operated offensive play.  Nadur’s striker Marcelo Barbosa was in an excellent form and was instrumental for his side to produce danger within Victoria’s area so that the Youngsters ended up scoring four goals and on three other occasions they had attempts stopped by the woodwork. The Wanderers tried hard to produce a challenge to their more quoted opponents but they found it extremely difficult to neutralise the quality of Nadur’s strikers and on the other hand they failed to capitalize from their best scoring opportunities so that they ended up conceding a defeat which leaves them in the red zone on the table.

The Youngsters had an excellent start and opened the score in the third minute of play through a strike form close distance by Shaun Attard after receiving from Marcelo Barbosa.  The Wanderers replied two minutes later through a shot by Gabriel Cardona that ended away from goal and on 12 minutes Victoria’s Ajibade Adesina hit badly when he was in a good position and the goalkeeper saved without any difficulty.  Victoria kept insisting and one minute later Predrag Dordevic headed in goal following a cross by James Obaje but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement. On 14 minutes Nadur’s keeper Franklin Vella was well placed to neutralize a low shot by James Obaje.  The Wanderers were punished for the missed chances as Nadur doubled the score on 19 minutes when Marcelo Barbosa released Yuri De Jesus Messias and the latter netted with a low shot.  On 29 minutes Nadur were again dangerous through a header by Tiago Da Silveira following a cross by Marcelo Barbosa that ended just high.  On 33 minutes the Wanderers reduced the score when Aud-gustine James Obaje entered the area with a personal action, had his first attempt blocked by the defense and from the rebound the same striker fired in goal.  Nadur however, regained the two-goal lead on 38 minutes when Marcelo Barbosa released Yuri De Jesus Messias who came face to face with the goalkeeper and netted with a low drive.  On 40 minutes Nadur could have added another goal but a shot by Daniel Bustos was saved by goalie Matthew Towns.  Nadur kept insisting and in the first minute of stoppage time before half time a curling shot by Marcelo Barbosa ended just wide and one minute alter an attempt by Shaun Attard following a pass by Marcelo Barbosa was cleared from the goalmouth by Anthony Attard with the goalkeeper beaten.

The Wanderers tried to produce a reaction during the opening minutes of the second half but the closest that they went to scoring was on 49 minutes through a shot by Sam Harland that was blocked by goalie Franklin Vella and the defense cleared the danger from the area.  Nadur scored their fourth goal on 53 minutes through a shot by Marcelo Barbosa who concluded into an open goal following a personal action.  Three minutes later Victoria’s Ajibade Adesina failed to connect to an inviting low cross by James Onaje and on 62 minutes Nadur’s keeper blocked with some difficulty a shot by Predrag Dordevic.  One minute later the Wanderers protested with the referee as a header by James Obaje from a corner action was blocked with the aid of the post by defender Josef Buttigieg, and thus claiming that the ball has crossed the line prior to the clearance.  Nadur were again dangerous on 65 minutes when Marcelo Barbosa entered Victoria’s area and form his pass Yuri Messias prolonged towards Shaun Attard but the latter had his effort blocked to a corner by defender Andrew Attard. From the same corner action Victoria’s defense failed to clear the ball and at the end defender Moussa Bamba avoided a certain goal when he cleared from the goalmouth.  The Wanderers scored their second goal on 70 minutes through a header by Sam Harland that ended out of the reach of the goalkeeper and with the ball hitting the post before ending in goal.  Two minutes later Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa had a low drive that was stopped by the post and from the same action an effort by Shaun Attard was blocked to a corner by the defense.  Nadur were unlucky on two other separate occasions. On 78 minutes a direct free kick by Yuri Messias hit the crossbar and on 86 minutes an effort by Tiago Da Silveira was also stopped by the woodwork with the goalkeeper beaten.  In the third minute of stoppage time the Wanderers could have scored another goal but a header by James Obaje following a corner kick by Anthony Attard was also stopped by the crossbar.

Referee: Daniel Casha
