MATCH REPORT
Sannat Lions ended Match-Day 14 of the BOV Gozo Football League Division II with a large win over Oratory Youths. With this result Sannat also defended their sole leadership and the one point lead over their main challengers for the title and promotion Xaghra United. Sannat dominated the match over Oratory form the very beginning and made sure of the three points at a very early stage of the encounter. Oratory struggled to produce some offensive play particularly after the break but Sannat were in full command of play and Oratory’s goal only arrived from a penalty converted near the end of the encounter.
Sannat opened the sore after just fifty seconds of play when Joseph Zammit released Matthew Portelli inside Oratory’s area and the latter fired in goal with a fine shot on the run. Oratory replied on 4 minutes through an initiative by Aleandro Bezzina but Sannat’s keeper Courtney Mercieca had good timing and managed to clear the ball before Bezzina could head towards goal. Sannat doubled the score on 14 minutes when Brandon Said passed to Joseph Zammit and the latter concluded in goal from close distance. In another good action by Sannat that arrived on 23 minutes an effort by Brandon Said ended away from Oratory’s goal and on 29 minutes a free kick by Sannat’s Joseph Zammit was saved to a corner by Oratory’s goalie Richard Sammut. Frim the same corner kick by Matthew Portelli a header by Dylan Bellotti was cleared from the goalmouth by defender Oliver Saliba. On 35 minutes Sannat added another goal scored by Ebube Ralph Okpokwu who entered the area with a personal action, had his first attempt partially blocked by goalie Richard Sammut and the same Okpokwu took the ball an d placed easily into an open goal. Oratory replied on 37 minutes through a free kick by Francesco Cini that was stopped by the crossbar and two minutes later Sannat’s keeper was well placed to neutralise a strike by oratory’s Paul Said from outside the area. Sannat scored the fourth goal on 43 minutes through a personal action by Joseph Zammit who entered the area, turned around the goalkeeper and concluded easily into an open goal. One minute later Sannat could have scored another goal when Ebube Ralph Okpokwu entered Oratory’s territory with a personal action but concluded badly when he came face to face with Oratory’s keeper. Sannat’s fifth goal arrived in the first minute of stoppage time before half time when Ebube Ralph Okpokwu passed to Brandon Said who concluded in goal with a low shot.
Oratory continued to suffer Sannat’s play after the break and on 51 minutes Sannat scored their sixth goal through Ebube Ralph Okpokwu turned around two defenders inside Oratory’s area and placed in goal with a curling shot that ended out of the reach of the goalkeeper. On 53 minutes Oratory’s Aleandro Bezzina had two consecutive attempts from a good position that were blocked with some difficulty by Sannat’s rear guard and on 58 minutes Sannat’s Dylan Bellotti had a good shot that was saved by Oratory’s keeper Richard Sammut. From the rebound the ball arrived to Ebube Ralph Okpokwu who placed in the net but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement. Sannat were again dangerous on 64 minutes through a shot by Brandon Said that ended high and on 83 minutes a header by Ebube Ralph Okpokwu ended over the crossbar. On 86 minutes Oratory were awarded a penalty for a foul by Dylan Bellotti on substitute Owen Mercieca and Francesco Cini scored the consolation goal for his side with his shot from the spot kick.
