MATCH REPORT

Nadur Youngsters scored three goals during the first half in their match against Ghajnsielem and paved the way to a win with a large score so that they retained their status as challengers to the current leaders for the main honour in Gozitan football this season.  For this match Nadur were without the striker Jefferson De Assis while Ghajnsielem had central defender Leandro Da Silva Lopes missing, both due a suspension. Ghajnsielem tried hard to recover from the difficult start but they failed to capitalise from their best scoring opportunities so that as time passed by they became demoralised and compromised their performance by conceding two more goals during the second period.

Nadur had an excellent start and opened the score in the third minute of play through a low shot from outside the area by Lucas Barreto Da Silva that ended out of the reach of goalie Lorjean Xuereb.  One minutes later Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa had an attempt after receiving form Shaun Attard that ended wide and on 7 minutes the Youngsters doubled the score when Ghajnsielem’s defence failed to clear a cross by Marcelo Barbosa and Leiner Garcia Panesso took the ball and netted with a close ranged shot.  Ghajnsielem replied on 10 minutes through a strike by Ali Oularbi that was saved with difficulty to a corner by Nadur’s keeper Franklin Vella.  The Blacks gained some confidence and increased their efforts in an attempt to recover the score. On 24 minutes a shot by Luis Andre De Melo Lima was blocked to a corner by the defence and on the half hour mark the same striker headed just over the cross bar a cross from the flank by Junki Sato.  Ghajnsielem were punished for the missed chances as Nadur scored their third goal on 43 minutes when Leiner Garcia Panesso entered Ghajnsielem’s area in a counter break and from his low cross Marcelo Barbosa concluded in goal with a low shot.  One minute later Nadur also protested for a penalty, alleging handling when a cross by Marcelo Barbosa was blocked by the defence.

Nadur tried to administer their three-goal lead after the break and for most of the time they managed to keep danger away from their area.  The Youngsters were also dangerous in their breaks and on 48 minutes a shot by Marcelo Barbosa was blocked in time by the defence to a corner.  On 55 minutes Ghajnsielem protested for a penalty when Nadur’s Lucas Barreto Da Silva cleared away a corner action. On 63 minutes an effort by Ghajnsielem’s Luis Andre De Melo Lima ended on the side of the net and on 68 minutes Nadur scored their fourth goal when Marcelo Barbosa took the ball when a clearance by Ghajnsielem’s defence was blocked at the edge of the area and the striker concluded in goal with a shot towards the far post.  Two minutes later Nadur scored the fifth goal through a low drive by Leiner Garcia Panesso following a counter break.  Nadur were in full control of play during the final stages of the encounter and could have added more goals to the final score.  On 73 minutes a lob by Leiner Garcia Panesso was well saved by Ghajnsielem’s goalie Lorjean Xuereb and on 84 minutes a shot by Daniel Mateo Bustos ended just wide.  Nadur went again close to scoring on 89 minutes but a lob by Marcelo Barbosa following a cross by Leiner Garcia Panesso ended on the roof of the net and in the first minute of stoppage time Ghajnsielem’s keeper once again was called to make a difficult intervention to block a close ranged shot by Marcelo Barbosa.
