MATCH REPORT

Gharb’s Hugo Santa Rosa Criuz scored three goals during the last part of the match against Munxar Falcons so that the Rangers moved away from the bottom of the table and they will now need just one point from their last match of the championship to make sure that they will avoid direct relegation.  With this result, and the results of other matches from Match-Day 20, Gharb also have a possibility to force a decider against the play-off match. The encounter between Munxar and Gharb was a direct clash between two teams who were on equal points and both occupying the bottom of the table. As a result for most of the match the two sides tried hard to obtain the win.  Gharb managed to take the lead during the first period but conceded Munxar’s reaction during the opening stages of the second half. Munxar however ended up too much offensive in their play so that they left their rear guard exposed during the final stages and the Rangers took full advantage by scoring the three goals that made al the difference between the two sides.

During the first part of the match Gharb held territorial supremacy but Munxar were well deployed and the two defensive departments prevailed over the respective strikers so that the two goalkeepers were not called to make difficult interventions.  The first serious action towards goal arrived on 19 minutes through Gharb’s Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz who entered Munxar’s area but his attempt form an angled position ended wide. Muxnar replied four minutes later through a header by Diego Martins De Souza following a free kick by Joseph Grima that was well blocked by Gharb’s goalie Daniel Spiteri and the defence cleared the danger from the goalmouth.  Gharb opened the score on 26 minutes when Nemanja Stojanovic took the ball from the right flank and lobbed over the goalkeeper into an open goal as Munxar’s custodian left his position in an attempt to clear the danger.  On the half hour mark Munxar had an attempt by Diego Martins De Souza that was neutralised by Gharb’s keeper and four minutes later Munxar protested for a penalty when Joseph Grima ended on the floor inside Gharb’s area.  On 36 minutes Munxar once again threatened Gharb’s defence but a header by Borja Polo Longarela following a free kick by Samwel Muscat was saved with some difficulty by goalie Daniel Spiteri. Gharb managed to come out of their defence on 40 minutes and were dangerous through a free kick by Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz that was partially saved by goalie John Paul Cassar, and from the rebound Pablo Nunez Del Castillo had his attempt blocked by central defender Jhon Jario Sandobal Guarin.  The ball fell to Nemanja Stojanovic who placed in the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for an offside infringement. On 45 minutes Munxar’s Diego Martins De Souza had an attempt that ended wide and the first half ended with Gharb in the lead.

After the resumption Munxar increased their efforts in an attempt to level the score.  On 58 minutes a header by Jhon Jario Sandobal Guarin following a free kick by Samwel Muscat was saved by goalie Daniel Spiteri and one minute later Gharb replied through a shot by Reuben Zammit that was well saved by Munxar’s keeper John Paul Cassar.  Munxar levelled the score on 63 minutes through a low shot from outside the area by Adebayo Ademilua that surprised Gharb’s keeper.  Munxar tried to keep pressure on Gharb’s defence but they ended up conceding counter breaks by their opponents.  Gharb regained the lead on 73 minutes through a free kick by Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz that ended out of the reach of Munxar’s keeper and on 76 minutes Gharb’s Nemanja Stojanovic released Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz inside Munxar’s area and the latter concluded in goal with a fine strike.  Minutes later Gharb were again dangerous but a shot by Manwel Gauci missed the target and on 83 minutes Gharb’s John Paul Grima entered Munxar’s area but his attempt was saved with some difficulty by goalie John Paul Cassar.  Gharb sealed the win by scoring the fourth goal on 87 minutes through Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz who concluded in goal with a low shot following a personal action.
