MATCH REPORT

Oratory Youths obtained a 2-1 over St Lawrence Spurs in the last match of the league for the two sides so that the Youths ended the season on a positive note.  The outcome of this encounter did not have any impact on the final stands for either side and therefore both St Lawrence and Oratory were seeking to end their respective season with a positive result.  The Spurs did not manage to express any particular motivation for a positive result in this match particularly as they were coming from a win in the final of the Knock Out competition that was played during the week, a result which actually made up for their disappointment in the campaign where they failed to be among the challengers for promotion.  On the other hand Oratory were more determined at the end they obtained a deserved win.

The Youths had an excellent start and opened the score on 6 minutes through a header by Daniele Degennaro following a free kick by Jurgen Attard.  St Lawrence could have levelled the score on 14 minutes when Muda Fagbeja received the ball inside Oratory’s area but he had his attempt from close distance that was blocked by goalkeeper Richard Sammut.  On 26 minutes Oratory were dangerous when a cross by Oliver Saliba arrived to an unmarked Kersten Grima inside Xaghra’s area but Oratory’s player had his attempt that was blocked by goalie Justin Grima. St Lawrence scored the equaliser in the first minute of stoppage time before half time through a shot form long distance by Luke Attard that surprised Oratory’s keeper.

St Lawrence continued to suffer Oratory’s offensive play after the break and on 61 minutes a shot by Oratory’s Kersten Grima was well saved by goalie Justin Grima.  On 70 minutes a shot from outside the area by Oratory’s substitute Sintayehu Curmi ended high. Oratory scored the goal that decided the issue on 83 minutes with a fine shot from outside the area by substitute George Attard that surprised goalie Justin Grima.  St Lawrence could have saved the result near the end of the match but on 87 minutes a shot by Charlon Farrugia ended wide and in the first minute of stoppage time before the end of the encounter to consecutive attempts by Muda Fagbeja and Adrian Xiberras were blocked by the defence.

Referee: Abdullah Dindar
