MATCH REPORT

Sannat Lions recovered from the defeat conceded during the week and returned to winning ways with a handsome 7-0 win over Qala Saints.  Sannat were determined to impose their superiority in this match and paved the way to the large win with two goals scored during the first half and two more goals scored during the first part of the second period.  In this match Qala found it difficult to produce offensive play and compromised the result with various mistakes at the defence.

Sannat had an excellent start and opened the score in the fourth minute of play through Brandon Said who entered Qala’s area with a personal action, turned around the goalkeeper and placed the ball into an open goal.  On 11 minutes Sannat’s Charlton Mifsud had a good attempt that was saved to a corner by goalie Malcolm Cefai and on 20 minutes a shot by Joseph Zammit ended away from Qala’s goal.  Sannat doubled the score on 25 minutes when Ebube Ralph Okpokwu received the ball inside Qala’s area from Fabian Xuereb and netted with a fine shot as the goalkeeper left his position in an attempt to block the danger.  The same Okpokwu could have added another goal on 40 minutes as he turned around Qala’s keeper but his attempt ended wide. Two minutes later Qala’s goalie Malcolm Cefai saved to a corner another effort by Ebube Ralph Okpokwu and on 45 minutes a shot by Sannat’s Fabian Xuereb ended over the crossbar.  In the first minute of stoppage time before half time Ebube Ralph Okpokwu had a good shot form an ideal position that just missed the target so that the first half ended with Sannat enjoying a two-goal lead.

Sannat scored their third goal after just 43 seconds of play into the second period when Fabian Xuereb received the ball inside Qala’s area, turned around his direct opponent and placed in goal with a low drive.  On 50 minutes Qala’s keeper Malcolm Cefai saved a header by Brandon Said following a cross by Eric Gauci and on 65 minutes Sannat added another goal with a fine shot by Charlton Mifsud that surprised Qala’s keeper.  Sannat continued to dominate over their opponents and two minutes later they scored the fifth goal through Brandon Said who entered Qala’s area, resisted to his direct opponent, turned around the goalkeeper and deposited easily into an open goal.  On 70 minutes Sannat’s Joseph Zammit scored the sixth goal with a shot from outside the area that got a deflection by a defender and the ball ended out of the reach of Qala’s keeper and on 76 minutes the same Joseph Zammit made it 7-0 when he concluded a personal action with a low shot.
