MATCH DETAILS

Zebbug Rovers and Oratory Youths shared the spoils in a draw of four goals in the penultimate match of the campaign for the two sides.  With this result Oratory confirmed that they will end the campaign in the fourth place on the final standings, while Zebbug, who were at the bottom of the table together with Qala Saints before this match, earned a precious point which puts them on the fifth place on the table.  The match between Zebbug and Oratory turned out to be an interesting encounter where Oratory opened a two-goal lead but Zebbug had a good reaction and saved the result with two goals scored in the space of two minutes.

The Youths had a better start and opened the score in the fourth minute of play through a shot from outside the area by Sintayehu Curmi that surprised Zebbug’s goalie Baskal Saliba.  On 12 minutes Zebbug replied through a free kick by Marcos Peres Vega that ended just high and on 18 minutes Oratory could have scored a second goal when a header by Emanuel Buttigieg from a free kick by Jurgen Attard was partially saved by goalie Baskal Saliba and from the rebound Daniele Degennaro incredibly concluded high when he was in front of an open goal.  Oratory were again dangerous on 43 minutes through a shot by Keith Farrugia that ended over Zebbug’s goal.

After the break Oratory tried to keep control of play and on 56 minutes they were unlucky when Daniele Degennaro entered Zebbug’s territory but his attempt towards Zebbug’s goal hit the post.  The same Degennaro took the rebound but his effort to conclude with a back heel was deflected by Zebbug’s defence to a corner. Zebbug had an opportunity to level the score on 59 minutes but a shot from long distance by Marco Ciangura ended wide.  On 65 minutes Oratory doubled the score when Zebbug’s keeper Baskal Saliba left his area in an attempt to clear the danger but failed to hit the ball so that Joseph Xerri took advantage of the situation and placed easily into an open goal.  Zebbug reduced the deficit on 72 minutes through a low strike by Aaron Buttigieg, when the goalkeeper was out of his position, following a low cross by Elijah Xuereb.  One minute later Zebbug were dangerous through a shot by M<arcos Peres Vega that was saved with difficulty to a corner by goalie Richard Sammut.  Zebbug kept insisting and levelled the score on 74 minutes through a header by Aaron Buttigieg following a corner kick by Matthion Formosa.  During the final stages the two sides had an opportunity to take the lead.  On 77 minutes a shot form long distance by Oraotry’s Emanuel Buttigieg ended high, while Zebbug’s Ryan Meilak had a shot following a cross by Marcos Peres Vega in the third minute of stoppage time that ended wide.
