SUMMARY

Xaghra United inflicted a heavy defeat to Gharb Rangers and managed to register their first points in the championship.  Before this match the two sides were still without a points as they both conceded three consecutive defeats in their respective three matches in the championship.  Thus, both Xaghra and Gharb were aiming to make up for the disappointing start in the championship by obtaining a positive result from this encounter. The match for most of the first half turned out into a well contested encounter as Xaghra scored an early goal but Gharb managed to stage a good reaction in the second part of the first half.  However, Gharb failed to capitalise from their chances to level the score and ended up conceding a second goal near the end of the first half so that for the rest of the match Xaghra controlled play with authority. Gharb were demoralised and were also punished by three more goals scored by Xaghra during the second period. For this match Xaghra had Victor Caruana as a coach for the first time as the administration of the newly promoted team changed the technical leadership subsequent to the third defeat conceded in the championship.  With this result, Gharb remain at the bottom of the table and without a point from four matches.
