SUMMARY

In the last match from Match-Day 8 of the BOV Gozo Football League of the second division, the current leaders Sannat Lions registered another win with a large score and remain at the top of the table with maximum points.  Sannat obtained a 5-2 win over Munxar Falcons, who are occupying the bottom place on the table, despite the fact that they had regular strikers Antoine Camilleri and Joseph Zammit missing from the starting line-up. Sannat paved the way to the handsome win with four goals scored during the first half.  Sannat tried to control play after the break but near the end of the encounter they seemed overconfident and conceded some space at their defence so that Munxar scored two goals and went very close to score other goals to make the score more respectable.

TIMELINE

Sannat produced pressure on Munar’s defence from the early stages and took also advantage of the fact that they were playing in the same direction of the strong wind.

11’ (0-1) – Sannat opened the score at an early stage of the encounter when the referee awarded a penalty for handling by Neville Haber in an attempt to clear the ball from the area following a cross by Christian Vella and Ebube Ralph Okpokwu placd in goal with his shot from the spot kick.

18’ (0-2)  Sannat doubled the score through a fine strike from outside the area by Christian Vella that surprised Munxar’s goalie Frankie Azzopardi.

20’ Sannat went close to add another goal when Ebube Ralph Okpokwu took the ball from his direct opponent at the edge of Munxar’s area but his lob towards an open goal was stopped by the post and defender Johnny Grech cleared the danger to a corner.

23’ Munxar had their first attempt towards Sannat’s goal when Ayesller Carvalho released Mario Azzopardi but the latter had his attempt that was neutralised by Sannat’s goalie Matthew Muscat.

25’ In another dangerous action by Sannat a direct corner kick by Christian Vella hit the crossbar.

31’ (red card) Sannat were awarded a second penalty when Munxar’s Nicholas Attard handled the ball on the goal-line following in melee.  The defender was also shown a red card for stopping a scoring opportunity.

32’ (0-3) Sannat’s Ebube Ralph Okpokwu converted the resultant penalty kick.

40’ (0-4)  Sannat increased their lead through Christian Debono who entered the area with a personal action and placed in goal with a low drive.
