SUMMARY

Xewkija Tigers recovered from he defeat conceded in their previous match from he chanmpionship and earned three deserved points from a 4-1 win over Kercem Ajax. With this result Xewkija also took full adavnatge of the defeat conceded by the leaders on Match-Day 11 and thus they once agan reduced their gap to five poi nts. Xewkija held comnd of ply forlong streches during the encounter but only managed to clinch the win with three goals scored after the break.

TIMELINE

Xewkija seemed more adventurous from the early stages but during the first half they were often erratic in their finishing and also conceded some space at their defence that was capitalised by their opponents.
3’ Xewkija lost an opportunity to score an early goal but Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior lifted over the crossbar from close distance an inviting cross by Michael Camilleri,
5’ (0-1) Kercem surprised their opponents when Andre Azzopardi released Anthony Zammit inside Xewkija’s territory and the latter had his low drive that was partially saved by Xewkija’s keeper but the same young striker took the rebound and placed easily into an open goal.
11’ Xewkija replied through a header by Claudio Antunes that was well saved by Kercem’s keeper Vladimir Dizdrevic.
15’ (1-1) Xewkija levelled the score through a fine strike from inside Kercem’s area by Claudio Antunes after receiving from Michael Camilleri.
20’ Kercem’s goalie Vladimir Dizdarevic was calledto make a good save following an attempt from outside the area by Xewkija’s Jackson De Lima.
22’ The same goalkeeper was well placed to turn to a corner a curling shot by Claudio Frances following a pass by Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior.
34’ In another good action by Xewkija a strike by Jackson De Lima got a deflection by the defence and the goalkeeper saved the danger.
35’ Kercem produced a counter break that could have created more danger towards Xewkija’s goal but they only won a free kick just outside the area and the attempt by Darko Krstic was neutralised by Xewkija’s keeper Leonard Camilleri.
40’ Kercem’s keeper Vladimir Dizdarevic made a good intervention to block a shot by Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior.
42’ The same Brazilian striker had another attempt for Xewkija from a free kick but the ball ended over Kercem’s goal.

Xewkija maintained their momentum after the break and took full command of play.
3’ (2-1) Xewkija turned the result in their favour when Kercem’s goal blocked, but did not hold, a strike from outside the area by ta’ Claudio Frances and the ball arrived to an unmarked Johnny Camilleri who netted easily form close distance.
15’ (3-1) Xewkija kept insisting and increased their lead by scoring the third goal through a header by Claudio Antunes following a cross by Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior.
17’ In another dangerous action by Xewkija a shot by Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior ended wide.
19’ Kercem produced a good offensive action but at the end the shot by Borja Polo Longarela was well saved by goalie Leonard Camilleri.
26’ Xewkija could have scored another goal when Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior passed through Kercem’s defence with a personal action but his attempt towards an open goal was cleared off the fatal line by Kercem’s defender Daniel Cassar.
33’ Xewkija were also unlucky when a shot form an angled position by Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior was stopped by the post.
35’ Kercem replied with a close ranged shot by Darko Krstic, following a free kick from long distance by Milos Perisic, which was saved to a corner with difficulty by Xewkija’s keeper Leonard Camilleri.
42’ Xewkija had two attempts by Claudio Antunes in two separate occasions in the space of one minute where they could have scored another goal. In the first occasion the Brazilian striker had his shot that ended on the side of the net and in the following action the same striker saw his shot well saved by Kercem’s keeper.
45’ (4-1) Xewkija scored their fourth goal with a low shot by Rodney Buttigieg after receiving from Claudio Frances
