Official Draws for GFA Competitions

The Gozo Football Association held the official draws of the main competitions for the football season 2020/2021 in a low profile meeting held with all the necessary precautions to follow the protocols stipulated by the Health Authorities against the Covid-19.

During the GFA Council Meeting, the President of the Gozo Football Association requested all those involved to be responsible and to follow all the restrictions so that the competitions would be in a position to take place according to the schedule and eventually the competitions may all take place in the presence of the supporters.  The first program of matches is scheduled for the weekend of 31 October and 1 November 2020.

The President also announced that all the matches of the GFA competitions may be followed through live streaming.

1st Division

The BOV Gozo Football League of the first division will be contested by nine teams who will play each other in two rounds.  Therefore on each match-day, one of the teams will not be involved. According to the draws for the BOV Gozo Football League of the first division, one Match-Day 1 the reigning champions Nadur Youngsters will not be involved.  Nadur Youngsters will start their defence of the title on Match-Day 2 against Xaghra United.  The matches for Match-Day 1 are:

Xaghra United vs Xewkija Tigers,
Sannat Lions vs Victoria Hotspurs,
SK Victoria Wanderers vs Kercem Ajax
Oratory Youths vs Ghajnsielem

GFA Cup

The draw for the BOV GFA Cup had champions Nadur Youngsters and the runners-up of the last season Xewkija Tigers seeded in the quarter-final stage of the competition.  The main match of the draw for the Preliminary Round of the BOV GFA Cup is the clash between two hot favourites for the main honours this season Ghajnsielem and Victoria Hotspurs.  The six remaining places of the quarter-final stage of the competition will be known from the outcome of the following matches:

Xaghra United vs Oratory Youths,
SK Victoria Wanderers vs Kercem Ajax,
St Lawrence Spurs vs Gharb Rangers,
Ghajnsielem vs Victoria Hotspurs,
Zebbug Rovers vs Munxar Falcons, and
Sannat Lions vs Qala Saints.

2nd Division

The BOV Gozo Football League for the second division will be contested by five teams who will play each other on three rounds.  According to the draws for the lower category, Zebbug Rivers will not be involved on Match –Day 1.  The two matches of Match-Day 1 for the lower category will be:

Munxar Falcons vs St Lawrence Spurs, and
Qala Saints vs Gharb Rangers

The five teams of the second division will also contest the GFA second division Knock Out competition.  The five teams will play a round-robin and the first two teams of the table will contest the final.  The first two matches of the round-robin will be:

Gharb Rangers vs Zebbug Rovers
Munxar Falcons vs Qala Saints
