In the last match of the second round of the BOV Gozo Football League of the first division, Nadur Youngsters inflicted a heavy defeat to Kercem Ajax so that they took full advantage of the draw registered by their closest rivals and increased their lead to 13 points.  Nadur may therefore become mathematically champions within the next matches of the third and final round of the championship. This was Nadur’s second win with a large score over Kercem in the space of five days as the Youngsters defeated the Ajax in the semi-final if the GFA KO competition for the top-flight during the week.

Nadur paved the way to the win with a large score with four goals scored during the first half-hour of play so that they reduced the rhythm and administered play until the end of the encounter.  For this match, Kercem were depleted with a number of players, including midfielder Sebastien Martinez Turizo and striker Euller Da Silva Rodrigues, were missing due to suspensions and injuries.  The Ajax however once again disappointed as they failed to resist Nadur’s play and ended up conceding another embarrassing defeat.

Timeline

Nadur was very aggressive during the opening minutes and forced their opponents to defend their area with many players.  Kercem struggled to maintain composure at their defensive department and ended up compromising the match by conceding goals during the early stages.

5’ Nadur could have opened the score but a close-range shot from an unmarked position by Jordi Parnis was blocked by goalie Gaetano Bugeja and the ball hit the post so that the defence managed to clear the danger to a corner.

6’ (1-0) Nadur opened the score when Kercem’s clearance from the corner action arrived at Ian Xuereb, the latter delivers a cross towards the far post and Jordi Parnis came from behind the defence and headed in the goal.

14’ (2-0) Nadur kept insisting and doubled the score when Ederson Bruno Domingos delivered a cross from a long distance and released Marcelo Barbosa.  The latter entered the area and from his cross-shot defender Nicholas Inguanez committed his own goal in an attempt to block the danger.

20’ (3-0) The Youngsters added another goal from a counter break where Stefan Cassar entered Kercem’s territory and passed to an unmarked Marcelo Barbosa who concluded easily in goal.

23’ Nadur could have scored another goal but a corner kick by Ederson Bruno Domingos aimed towards goal was stopped by the post.

24’ In another good action by Nadur a shot from an ideal position by Jordi Parnis was blocked to a corner by the defence.

27’ (4-0) Nadur practically put their minds at rest from the three points at an early stage as they scored the fourth goal that arrived through a low shot by Ederson Bruno Domingos after receiving from Stefan Cassar

HT (4-0)

Second Half

Nadur continued to maintain control of play and reduced the pressure on Kercem’s defence, while Kercem continued to find it very difficult to operate dangerous actions.

13’ (5-0) Nadur increased the score with a goal that arrived through a header by Judivan Flor Da Silva following a cross from the left flank by substitute Owen Peter Bugeja.

26’ (crossbar)  Kercem could have scored a consolation goal but a free-kick from long-distance by Luiz Henrique Santana Motta was stopped by the crossbar with the substitute goalkeeper Baskal Saliba beaten.

The match lost much of the interest as Nadur completed their five substitutions during the first part of the second period and Kercem managed to be more organised to protect their area from danger.
