Ghajnsielem confirmed their good moment of form, expressed mainly in their previous match with a win over current leaders Nadur Youngsters, and consolidated their second place on the table with three points obtained from a victory over relegation strugglers SK Victoria Wanderers. This was also the third win for Ghajnsielem over the Wanderers this season.
Ghajnsielem held territorial supremacy for most of the encounter and the win could have been with a larger margin if it was not for another important performance by Victoria’s keeper Mladen Kukrika as the latter denied the Blacks from scoring more goals with a series of decisive interventions. The performance by Victoria’s goalie left his side in contention for a long period in the match but the Wanderers failed to capitalise from their few scoring opportunities so that they also missed the possibility to surprise their more quoted opponents. In this match, Ghajnsielem’s striker Igor Nedeljkovic was another important protagonist since his movement within Victoria’s territory created continuous danger in front of the goal.
Timeline
Ghajnsielem tried to take command of play from the early stages but the Wanderers defended well during the first part of the encounter and kept the danger away from the area. The Blacks opened the score in their first serious offensive action and started to administer play with more authority.
10’ The Wanderers could have created more danger when Aud-Gustine James Obaje produced a personal action from the right flank but his low cross arrived behind striker Gabriel Cardona and the defence cleared the danger.
18’ (1-0) Ghajnsielem broke the deadlock when Igor Nedeljkovic controlled an excellent through pass from long distance by Daniel Farrugia at the edge of the area and the Serbian striker released Alberto Xuereb who fired in goal with a shot on the run.
19’ The Blacks could have doubled the score less than a minute later but a shot by Igor Nedeljkovic following a short clearance by the defence ended wide.
22’ Ghajnsielem were again dangerous but an attempt directly from free-kick by Alberto Xuereb missed the target.
27’ Ghajnsielem went very close to scoring when Shaun Attard entered Victoria’s area from the right flank but his low shot aimed towards the far post ended just wide.
30’ The Wanderers replied through a low shot by Fabricio Rozkiewicz that was saved with some difficulty by goalie Adrian Parnis.
35’ A shot from outside the area by Ghajnsielem’s skipper Kenneth Mercieca ended high.
45+1’ The Wanderers created some panic within Ghajnsielem’s area when a header by Asante Agyeman following a corner kick by Fabricio Rozkiewicz was cleared from the goalmouth by Daniel Farrugia

12’ Ghajnsielem were denied from scoring another goal when goalie Mladen Kukrika saved to a corner a close-range shot by Shaun Attard after receiving inside the area from Alberto Xuereb.
15’ The same Xuereb could have capitalised better when Victoria’s defence cleared badly inside their area but the shot from an ideal position was blocked by central defender Neil Camilleri.
18’ Ghajnsielem kept insisting and Kurt Grima released inside Victoria’s area Igor Nedeljkovic but the latter saw his low drive ended just wide.
26’ The Wanderers missed a golden scoring opportunity when Gabriel Cardona delivered a cross from the right flank that arrived at an unmarked Aud-Gustine James Obaje but the latter incredibly hit badly from a close distance so that goalie Adrian Parnis saved without difficulty.
31’ Victoria’s goalie was again called to make a difficult save to block a shot from close distance by Kurt Grima after receiving from Shaun Attard.
32’ In the following action a strike from outside the area by substitute Dejan Bogdanovic missed the target.

35’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Adrian Parnis was well placed and made a good save to block a free kick by substitute Kersten Grima.
41’ Victoria’s Fabricio Rozkiewicz had a shot from outside Ghajnsielem’s area that missed the target.
