In the first match from Match Day-5 of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League of the first division Sannat Lions and Oratory Youths shared four goals and earned a point each which keeps them both on equal points on the table.

The two sides were aiming to obtain a win from this encounter in an attempt to move away from the lower places on the table.  Sannat and Oratory obtained a win each from their respective previous four matches and therefore a win from this direct clash could have been crucial for either side.  However, the match turned out to be well contested where Oratory were in the lead on two occasions, but they conceded Sannat’s comeback and at the end the win could have gone either way.  The Youths left the field of play much more disappointed with the outcome as they missed some good scoring opportunities to score a third goal before conceding Sannat’s second equaliser.  The protagonists of this match were Oratory’s Haraan Goncalves Barbosa and Sannat’s Sebastien Martinez Turizo who scored a brace each.

Timeline:

Sannat were more aggressive during the opening minutes of play but Oratory resisted well and as time passed by, they started to operate better and created better scoring opportunities.  Sannat were not demoralised and managed although they ended up the first half trailing by one goal.

13’ (protests for penalty) Oratory protested for a penalty following a challenge by Aaron Azzopardi on Haraan Goncalves Barbosa but the referee did not notice any infringement.

19’ (0-1) Oratory opened the score when Nikola Sutic won the ball in the midfield and unmarked Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa.  The latter entered the area and placed in goal as Sannat’s goalie left his position in an attempt to block the danger.

22’ Sannat replied through an attempt directly from a free kick by Sebastien Martinez Turizo that was saved with difficulty to a corner by Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli.

26’ Oratory went close to add another goal but a direct free kick by Sunday Uforma Ubuwere ended just wide.

27’ The same Ubuwere had an attempt from close distance following a cross from the left flank that was well saved by Sannat’s keeper Luke Buttigieg.

35’ (1-1) Sannat levelled the score through a fine strike from outside the area by Sebastien Martinez Turizo that ended out of reach of Oratory’s keeper.

39’ Sannat’s goalie Luke Buttigieg was called to make a difficult intervention when he left his position in time to block an effort from close distance by Sunday Uforma Ubuwere after receiving from Haraan Goncalves Barbosa.

40’ (1-2) Oratory regained the lead when Oliver Curmi entered Sannat’s area and passed to Sunday Uforma Ubuwere, the latter hit badly but the ball got a deflection from the defence and arrived to an unmarked Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa who took the opportunity and netted easily from close distance.

HT (1-2)

Second Half

Sannat came out more determined after the break in an attempt to level the score but Oratory were well deployed at their defence and also continued to created danger through counter breaks so that the match remained quite interesting until the end.

6’ (post) Sannat went very close to level the score but an attempt directly from a free kick by Lucas Silva Gomes hit the post and the defence cleared the danger.

7’ Oratory operated a counter break from the following action where Haraan Goncalves Barbosa entered Sannat’s area with a personal action but his close ranged shot was saved to a corner by goalie Luke Buttigieg.

9’ Sannat were again dangerous but a shot from a good position by Lucas Silva Gomes ended wide.

21’ Oratory missed a good scoring opportunity when Sunday Uforma Ubuwere came face to face with Sannat’s keeper but the latter had good timing and saved the close ranged attempt.

31’ Sannat’s goalie once again kept his side in contention when he made a good save to neutralise a shot by Nikola Sutic.

34’ (protests for penalty) Sannat protested for a penalty following an intervention by Oratory’s goalie on Camillo Andres Sanchez Gonzales who entered the area.

39’ (2-2) Sannat recovered the deficit through a free kick by Sebastien Martinez Turizo that surprised the goalkeeper with the ball hitting the post before ending in the net.

45+4’ Oratory had an opportunity to score the third goal but an attempt from a free kick by Haraan Goncalves Barbosa was well saved by goalie Luke Buttigieg.

45+5’ Sannat also went close to score the decisive goal but a strike by Sebastien Martinez Turizo from a good position ended just high.
