In the last match from Match Day-11 of the BOV Gozo Football League of the second division, St Lawrence Spurs registered a surprise when they obtained a close win over Zebbug Rovers. Zebbug were the favourite to obtain the three points at stake as, before this match, they were considered as challengers for the promotion while St Lawrence was in the tussle to avoid the bottom place on the table. With this result, the Spurs increased their gap from the team at the bottom place while Zebbug practically compromised the possibility to stay with the top teams during the final matches of the campaign.
For this match Zebbug had their prolific striker Daniel Mesa Pineros missing due to a suspension so their possibilities to produce serious danger to their opponents were limited. The Spurs took full advantage of the situation and managed to share play for most of the encounter. St Lawrence also scored the goal that decided the issue during the opening minutes of the second period and managed to defend the lad until the final whistle.
Timeline:
Zebbug tried to take command of play from the first minute but St Lawrence was well organised and as time passed by they also shared play in the midfield. The two sides however failed to capitalise on their respective potential scoring opportunities so the actions on goal were quite rare.

Second Half
St Lawrence had an excellent start in the second period and managed to score the only goal of the encounter so they gained confidence and managed to resist Zebbug’s reaction until the final whistle.
3’ (0-1) St Lawrence took the lead when Christian Azzopardi delivered an inviting cross inside Zebbug’s area and Christian Grima surprised the defence and headed in the goal.
