Ghajnsielem scored a goal near the end of each half to obtain a win over Oratory Youths in the last match of the first round of the Play-Out for the two sides.  With this result, Ghajnsielem became mathematically sure of avoiding any relegation issues so that they will be playing the last three matches of the championship without any pressure.

On the other hand, this was Oratory’s third defeat in the Play-Out and remain seriously involved in the tussle against relegation as the two teams behind them on the table lie within the range of three points.

The match turned out to be a very inserting encounter with both sides creating good scoring opportunities.  The Blacks were rewarded as they capitalised better from their chances while Oratory was often very erratic in their finishing and in more than one occasion they were also denied from scoring with some important interventions by Ghajnsielem’s keeper Adrian Parnis, including a save from a penalty kick during the opening minutes of play of the second period.

Timeline:

Ghajnsielem saw more of the ball during the first period but the Youths seemed determined to obtain a positive result and managed to threaten their opponents on more than one occasion. As a result, the match produced various scoring opportunities at the two ends of the field and the result was uncertain.

16’ Oratory produced the first dangerous action of the encounter through a shot by Kenny Hili that ended wide.

17’ Ghajnsielem’s keeper Adrian Parnis was well placed and saved an attempt by Haraan Goncalves Barbosa after receiving from Jovan Mijuskovic.

19’ The Blacks had a good shot by Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos that was neutralised in two attempts by oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli.

21’ (post)  Ghajnsielem went very close to open the score when Naim Ibrahim Belhadj entered Oratory’s area from the right flank and from his low shot the effort by Pedro Augusto Mota De Lima aimed to the upper corner of the goal was stopped by the post.

25’ Oratory’s goalie was again called to make an important intervention to block a shot directly from a free kick by Ghajnsielem’s Oliveira Santos.

27’ The Youths missed a good scoring opportunity when Nikola Sutic unmarked Jovan Mijuskovic but the latter had his shot from close distance that was blocked by Ghajnsielem’s goalie Adrian Parnis.

30’ Ghajnsielem replied with an initiative by Alberto Xuereb who entered the area from the left flank and from his low cross Pedro Augusto Mota De Lima had his attempt that was blocked to a corner by central defender Jeferson De Susa Ferreira.

37’ The Blacks could have created more danger, but Kevin Farrugia’s shot following a corner kick by Oliveira Santos missed the target.

38’ The same Oliveira Santos had a shot following a corner action that was saved with some difficulty by Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli.

40’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Adrian Parnis denied Oratory from opening the score when Jovan Mijuskovic entered Ghajnsielem’s territory but the keeper left his position in time and managed to take the ball away from the defender at the edge of the area.

42’ (1-0) Ghajnsielem took the lead from a good action by Alberto Xuereb from the left flank who delivered a low cross towards the goalmouth, the ball got a deflection and Pedro Augusto Mota De Lima headed the ball in the goal from very close distance.

45’ Ghajnsielem went very close to add another goal but a lob by Alberto Xuereb when the goalkeeper was out of his position was cleared from the goalmouth by central defender Jeferson De Souza Ferreira.

HT (1-0)

Second Half

Play continued to be well contested during the second period as Ghajnsielem tried to defend their lead while Oratory increased their efforts but failed to convert their chances into goals.

5’ Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli was called to make a good save to block a free kick by Oliveira Santos.

8’ (penalty missed – saved) Oratory had a golden opportunity to recover the deficit when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Daniel Farrugia on Haraan Goncalves Barbosa but the same Brazilian striker hesitated with his shot from the penalty spot and goalie Adrian Parnis blocked the ball in two attempts.

12’ Ghajnsielem’s keeper once again had good timing as he left his area to stop Haraan Goncalves Barbosa from entering the area.

39’ Oratory’s last opportunity to level the score arrived when Jovan Mijuskovic unmarked Haraan Goncalves Barbosa but the latter once again saw his attempt from a good position that Ghajnsielem’s goalie saved.

41’ Ghajnsielem’s Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos passed through Oratory’s defence with a personal action but his final shot ended wide.

45+3’ (2-0) The Blacks made sure of the win by scoring the second goal when Oratory’s players, including the goalkeeper, were within Ghajnsielem’s territory and from the clearance by the defence, Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos released Alberto Xuereb who netted easily with a low shot.  During the celebrations of the goal, Ghajnsielem’s coach Elton a Silva had a fighting attitude with a player from Oratory and was therefore shown a red card.
