In the last match from match-Day 4 of the championship Qala Saints recovered from the defeat conceded in their previous match and obtained three deserved points from a 6-2 win over Ghajnsielem. This was an important match for the two sides as they were both on equal points with one win from their respective first three matches.
Qala’s win matured with four goals scored during the first period and two goals that arrived during the final minutes of the encounter. The Maroons took the driving seat by scoring three goals during the opening stages of the encounter and although Ghajnsielem reduced the deficit to two goals before halftime, the latter failed to complete a comeback. In this match, Ghajnsielem exposed their difficulties at their defence and ended up conceding another heavy defeat. On the other side, Qala capitalised from their chances and put their minds at rest from the win by scoring the last two goals so that they are now sharing the third spot on the table with SK Victoria Wanderers.
Timeline:
Qala came out for this match with the intention to make up for the previous disappointing performances and converted their determination by scoring three goals within the opening minutes. Qala continued to be the better side but they seemed overconfident in their defence and allowed their opponents to remain in contention.
3’ (1-0) The Maroons opened the score in their first serious attempt towards Ghajnsielem’s goal when Christian Vella passed through Ghajnsielem’s defence with personal action and netted with a low shot as soon as he entered the area.
6’ (goal disallowed) Ghajnsielem replied with a counter break by Alberto Xuereb and from his low cross Godwin Emmanuel deposited the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement.
9’ (2-0) Qala doubled the score when Igor Nedeljkovic produced a personal initiative and entered the area from the left flank. The striker had his low shot that was partially saved by Ghajnsielem’s goalie and from the rebound Christian Vella took the opportunity to conclude in the net with a tap-in.
16’ (3-0) Qala once again surprised Ghajnsielem’s rear guard when Lucas Matheus Dos Santos released Lucas Baretto Da Silva from the midfield, the latter turned around the goalkeeper outside the area and insisted with a solo action until he deposited the ball into an open goal.
22’ (3-1) Ghajnsielem managed to reduce the deficit when Qala’s rear guard cleared badly, Claudio Henrique Da Silva Barbosa took possession and from his cross, Luiz Henrique Santana Motta fired in goal from an unmarked position.
40’ (4-1) Qala regained their three-goal lead following a well-taken free kick as Igor Nedeljkovic released Jordi Parnis inside Ghajnsielem’s area and the latter concluded in the net with a low shot from an angled position.
45+2’ (4-2) Ghajnsielem managed to score a second goal on the stroke of halftime through a shot on the run by Godwin Emmanuel following a low cross from the right flank by Ishmael Belhadj.

Second Half
After the resumption, Ghajnsielem tried to increase their efforts in an attempt to re-open the issue but Qala consolidated their defensive department and continued to be more dangerous through counter breaks so that, contrary to the first half, the actions on goal became rear.
19’ Qala went very close to scoring their fifth goal but Igor Nedeljkovic’s attempt, after receiving an inviting low pass from Jordi Parnis was blocked in front of the goalmouth by the defence.
20’ (red card) Qala were reduced to ten players when Igor Nedeljkovic ended on the floor inside Ghajnsielem’s area following a challenge by an opponent and the striker was shown a second yellow card for simulation.
35’ Ghajnsielem had a good opportunity to reduce the deficit to just one goal when Qala’s defence failed to clear the ball from their area but Ghajnsielem’s substitute Kurt Bajada hesitated and missed the opportunity to conclude towards the goal from an unmarked position.
39’ (5-2) Qala made sure of the win by regaining the three-goal lead through a strike from long distance by Lucas Matheus Dos Santos that ended in the upper corner of Ghajnsielem’s goal.
41’ (6-2) The Maroons made it a half dozen with a tap-in by Lucas Baretto Da Silva following a cross from the left flank by Jordi Parnis.
