Qala Saints confirmed their good moment of form and extended their recovery from an inconsistent stat in the campaign with a convincing win over SK Victoria Wanderers.  Qala’s win matured with three goals scored during the first half so that their opponents became demoralized and threw the towel during the second period.

This was an important match for the two sides who needed a victory to keep in the top positions of the table.  With this third consecutive win, Qala consolidated their status as challengers to the main honor, while the Wanderers practically compromised the positive performances expressed in the first match so that they ended up with the pressure of the teams behind them on the table in a tussle against the red zone.

During these last matches, including in this encounter against the Wanderers, Qala were very pragmatic as they expressed a hard working midfield which can protect their defence and produce serious danger each time that their strikers approach the opponent’s area.  On the other hand the Wanderers showed that they lack experience as they compromised the possibility to earn a positive result from this match due to a soft approach and some poor defending that allowed the Maroons to be in the driving seat throughout the ninety minutes.  Qala’s striker Igor Nedeljkovic was the hero for his side as he scored the first goals since he joined the team at the beginning of this season.

Timeline:

Qala had an excellent start in the match, took the lead in the first minute of play and doubled the score few minutes later.  The Wanderers found it very difficult to recover from the early shock and failed to capitalize from their potential scoring opportunities so that the Maroons held control of the match until half time.

1’ (0-1) Qala opened the score in their first attempt towards Victoria’s goal when Lucas Matheus Dos Santos delivered the ball towards the first post from a free kick, Lucas Baretto Da Silva hit badly and the ball arrived to Jordi Parnis who addressed towards the goalmouth and Igor Nedeljkovic was at the right place to guide the ball in the net.

6’ Qala were again dangerous but a shot by Lucas Matheus Dos Santos was saved in two attempts by goalie Adrian Parnis.

12’ (0-2) The Maroons doubled their lead when Igor Nedeljkovic passed through Victoria’s defence following a through pass from the midfield and the striker fired in goal from an ideal position.

18’ (goal disallowed) Victoria’s Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva netted with a low drive after receiving from Luke Fenech but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement.

19’ Qala went very close to add another goal when Lucas Matheus Dos Santos took ball from the defence but his low shot was well saved by goalie Adrian Parnis.

24’ Victoria could have created more danger but the header by Alexandre Galiano Lazarini following a corner kick by Marcus Vinicius Claudino Ramos ended high among protests from the same player for alleged holding.

27’ Qala’s goalie Owen Attard made an important intervention to deny Victoria from scoring when he blocked to a corner a shot from an angled position by Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva.

31’ (protests for penalty) The Wanderers protested for a penalty when Junior Conceicao Cabral ended on the floor inside Qala’s area following a challenge with his direct opponent as he was chasing to meet a low cross by Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva.

45’ Victoria were again dangerous when Emerson Zammit passed through Qala’s defence with a personal action but his low shot aimed towards the far post ended wide.

45+4’ (0-3) Qala increased their lead when Victoria hesitated to clear the ball from their territory, Lucas Baretto Da Silva crossed from the left flank and Joao Vitor Ferrari Silva headed in goal from close distance.

Second Half

Qala were very prudent after the break and came out with the intention to keep command of play and deny their opponents from producing danger within their territory.  The Wanderers struggled to regain some confidence and they also ended up being very erratic in the situation where they could have reduced the deficit.

7’ The Wanderers missed a golden scoring opportunity when Junior Conceicao Cabral released Emerson Zammit who came face to face with goalie Owen Attard but the young striker concluded badly from close distance and the goalkeeper saved the danger.

17’ Qala went again close to scoring when Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis clear inside his area a cross from the left but the same keeper recovered and managed to block a close ranged shot by Lucas Matheus Dos Santos.

18’ The Wanderers could have reduced the score but a header from close distance by Junior Conceicao Cabral following a cross by Aaron Touarha ended wide.

23’ Victoria’s Marcus Vinicius Claudino Ramos had a shot from long distance but the ball missed the target.

30’ Qala could have scored another goal but an attempt from a good position by substitute Nathan Chukwudi Njoku following a corner kick by Lucas Matheus Dos Santos was well saved by Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis.

34’ (crossbar) The Wanderers went closest to reduce the score when a shot from outside the area by Marcus Vinicius Claudino Ramos got a deflection by a defender, the ball hit the crossbar and the goalkeeper recovered among protest from the Citizens claiming that the ball may have crossed the fatal line.

39’ Victoria once again failed to capitalize from a good scoring opportunity when substitute Joseph Saliba delivered a good cross from the right flank but Kenneth Mercieca’s header from long distance ended wide.
