The current leaders of the BOV Gozo Football League of the first division Qala Saints confirmed their good moment of form and obtained qualification to the final of the GFA Knock Out for the first division with a 1-0 win over SK Victoria Wanderers in the second semi-final of the competition.
The match turned out to be quite interesting where the two defensive departments prevailed over the respective strikers for most of the encounter. Qala saw more of the ball but they failed to convert their supremacy into goal-scoring opportunities. The outcome remained uncertain for long stretches as the Wanderers still created some potential scoring opportunities through sporadic breaks, despite struggling to manoeuvre in the midfield, but they were erratic in their finishing and missed the opportunity to obtain a win from this difficult encounter. However, Qala’s win was deserved as they were in command of play throughout the ninety minutes.
Timeline:
Qala came out in a better shape but the Wanderers were well organised and during the opening minutes, the Wanderers kept their area clear of danger. As time passed by the Citizens went out of their defence but the two defensive departments prevailed over the respective strikers and the actions on goal were quite rare.
9’ Qala produced their first dangerous action when Igor Nedeljkovic ran away inside Victoria’s territory but the shot by the striker was weak and goalie Angelo Parnis saved without difficulty.
31’ Qala could have created more danger but an attempt from a free kick by Joao Vitor Ferrari Silva missed the target.
33’ The Wanderers replied with a prolonged action at the edge of Qala’s area but the effort by Joseph Saliba was weak and goalie Owen Attard saved without difficulty.
38’ The same Saliba won the ball from Qala’s defence from the midfield but his shot ended high.
45’ Qala went very close to open the score but a low shot from outside the area by Lucas Matheus Dos Santos gave the illusion of goal but the ball ended just wide.

Second Half
Qala continued to dictate matters after the break but the Wanderers continued to struggle to defend their area and occasionally they tried to operate dangerous breaks. As a result, the actions on goal continued to be rare and the qualification was only decided with a goal that arrived near the end of the encounter.
11’ The Wanderers missed a good opportunity when Aaron Touarha delivered a good cross from the right flank but Luke Fenech’s header from an angled position ended wide.
17’ Qala missed a good scoring opportunity when Igor Nedeljkovic delivered an inviting low cross from the left flank but Nathan Chukwudi Njoku failed to connect.
25’ Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis was called to make an important intervention to block an effort by Joao Vitor Ferrari Silva following a free kick.
28’ SK Victoria Wanderers could have created more danger when Junior Conceicao Cabral released Emerson Zammit but the latter saw his shot from an ideal position that ended wide.
30’ Victoria’s Emerson Zammit went again close to put his side in the lead when he entered the area from the right flank but his shot was well saved by goalie Owen Attard.
35’ Qala’s Nicholas Inguanez could have concluded better but his shot on the run missed the target.
39’ (1-0) Qala broke the deadlock when Lucas Matheus Dos Santos passed from the left-hand side and from his cross, Jordi Parnis came from behind the defence and fired in goal from close distance.
