Sannat Lions recovered from the defeat conceded in their previous match and came from behind in their match against Gharb Rangers to obtain a 4-2 win.  With this result, Sannat re-opened their chances to be among the challengers for promotion as they are within reach of the two teams who are occupying the first places on the table.

Gharb Rangers, who are without a point from three matches, were the better side during the first period and took the break with a two-goal lead.  However, Sannat produced an effective reaction after the break and ended up scoring four goals without any reply from their opponents to clinch the win.

Timeline:

The two sides came out determined to take command of play and during the opening minutes, both teams created danger.  Gharb surprised their opponents with an early goal and resisted to Sannat’s immediate reaction so that they doubled their lead before the half-hour mark and took the driving seat until the end of the first half.

4’ Sannat missed an open scoring opportunity when Boubacar Kanta entered Gharb’s area with a personal action but from his inviting low pass Gabriel Debrincat hesitated to conclude and goalie Andre Micallef recovered in time to save the danger.

5’ (0-1) Sannat were punished for the missed chance as Gharb opened the score when Andrew Ofulue Chukwuwinke received a through ball from the midfield and placed in goal with a low shot as the goalkeeper left his position in an attempt to block the danger.

8’ Sannat replied with an attempt directly from a free kick by Aaron Azzopardi that ended just wide.

9’ Gharb’ goalie Andre Micallef was almost surprised but managed to block a good attempt by Nicholas Grima.

17’ Sannat’s goalie Kyle Attard was well placed and saved to a corner an attempt directly from a free kick by Andrew Ofulue Chukwuwinke.

23’ Sannat could have concluded better but a header by a header by Boubacar Kanta from a corner kick by Aaron Azzopardi ended just wide.

27’ (0-2) Gharb doubled their lead when Sannat’s defence failed to clear the ball from the danger area following a cross from the left flank and Tristan Axiak took advantage and fired in goal from close distance.

33’ Gharb missed an opportunity to add another goal when Carlos Cutajar entered Sannat’s area but his lob over the goalkeeper from an angled position missed the target.

45+2’ Gharb could have scored the third goal when Sannat’s goalie did not hold a cross by David Galea but from the rebound, Carlos Cutajar incredibly lifted over the crossbar with an open goal at his mercy.

HT (0-2)

Second Half

After the break, Sannat came out more aggressive and was determined to recover the score.  Sannat put pressure on Gharb’s defence and achieved their objective before the hour mark so Gharb was shocked and the latter compromised their efforts produced during the first half since they did not manage to produce a reaction.

3’ Gharb’s goalie Andre Micallef made a good intervention to block a shot from an angled position by Nicholas Grima and from the rebound Boubacar Kanta concluded wide.

5’ (1-2) Sannat reduced the deficit when Gharb’s defence failed to clear a cross by Aaron Azzopardi and substitute Paul Said was at the right place and fired in goal from an ideal position.

14’ (2-2) Sannat levelled the score with a goal that arrived through a header by Gabriel Debrincat following a free kick from a long distance by Aaron Azzopardi.

18’ Gharb’s keeper Andre Micallef was called to make an important intervention to block a strike from close distance by Boubacar Kanta.

19’ The same goalkeeper once again denied Sannat from taking the lead when he managed to block two consecutive attempts that arrived through a shot from outside the area by Paul Said and the attempt from the rebound by Boubacar Kanta.

27’ Gharb could have regained the lead when Carlos Cutajar passed inside Sannat’s area from the right flank but his low drive aimed towards the far post ended wide.

35’ Sannat also missed an open scoring opportunity when Gharb’s defence failed to clear a cross from the left by Boubacar Kanta but Gabriel Debrincat incredibly concluded wide with an open goal at his mercy.

36’ The same striker had another good opportunity when he was alone inside Gharb’s area but his strike was well blocked by goalie Andre Micallef.

36’ (3-2) Sannat’s Gabriel Debrincat made up for his previous mistakes in the following action, to put his side in the lead for the first time, when he received the ball inside Gharb’s area at an unmarked position and concluded in goal with a low shot.

40’ (post) Sannat could have made sure of the win by scoring another goal but a shot from outside the area by Paul Said hit the post.

45+2’ (4-2) Sannat sealed the win by scoring the fourth goal that arrived through a header by Gabriel Debrincat following a cross by Boubacar Kanta from the right flank.
