Nadur Youngsters returned to winning ways, after two consecutive draws when they defeated third-placed SK Victoria Wanderers in the last match for the two sides of the second round.  Nadur therefore will start the third and final round of the championship with a three-point lead over their closest challengers for the title, while the Wanderers missed an opportunity to reduce their gap from the top positions.

For this match, the Wanderers had Marcus Vinicius Claudio Ramos missing due to a suspension, while Junior Conceicao Cabral was kept among the reserved as a precaution due to an injury.  On the other hand, Nadur were back in their typical formation as defender Ian Xuereb returned from suspension while striker Marcelo Barbosa recovered from a long injury.

Nadur’s win matured with three goals scored during the second part of the first period so that they came out for the second period with less pressure and with a comfortable cushion.  Although the outcome of the encounter seemed determined Nadur continued to produce dangerous play during the second period while the Wanderers found it very difficult to re-open the issue.

Timeline:

Nadur took territorial command of play from the early stages but during the opening stages, they found it difficult to conclude towards Victoria’s goal and at the same time they also conceded some space to their opponents to operate counterbreaks.  Nadur however scored two goals in the space of a few minutes before the half-hour mark and a third goal that arrived a few minutes from the break so that they practically paved the way to a comfortable win.

7’ Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis was called to make two consecutive interventions to block a shot from outside the area by Gennaro Hili and the attempt from the rebound by Marcelo Barbosa.

10’ (post) The Wanderers replied with a good initiative by Luke Fenech who crossed from the left flank and Emerson Zammit took the ball but his low shot was stopped by the post.

11’ Nadur had a good shot from outside the area by Joseph Mario Vella that was neutralised by goalie Adrian Parnis.

23’ The Youngsters tried to surprise Victoria’s defence through another shot from long distance by Marcelo Pereira Muniz but the ball ended away from goal.

24’ The Wanderers missed a good scoring opportunity when Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva passed inside Nadur’s area and from his inviting cross Joseph Saliba hit badly and then the ball arrived to Joel Xuereb who saw his close-ranged shot that was blocked by

26’ (0-1) Nadur punished their opponents when Marcelo Barbosa delivered a cross inside Victori’s area and Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio concluded with a fine lob towards the far corner of the net.

30’ (0-2) Nadur doubled their lead when Marcelo Jr Barbosa took the ball just outside Victoria’s area, Passed through the defence and netted with a fine shot that ended out of the reach of the goalkeeper.

42’ (0-3) Nadur added another goal through Marcelo Jr Barbosa who entered Victoria’s defence and placed behind the goalkeeper with a low drive.

Second Half

Nadur came out for the second period to score more goals but the strikers were often erratic and failed to capitalise on some good chances in front of Victoria’s goal.  On the other hand, the Wanderers struggled to create dangerous play although they managed to reduce the score at an early stage of the second period.

1’ Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa had a good shot that ended over the crossbar.

3’ The Wanderers replied with an effort by Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva but the ball ended high.

4’ (1-3) penalty Victoria reduced the deficit when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Junior Adenilson Ferreira Dos Santos on Joseph Saliba and Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva netted his shot from the penalty spot.

11’ Nadur went very close to re-establishing the three-goal lead when Stefan Cassar took the ball from Victoria’s defence but his attempt from an ideal position was saved to a corner by goalie Adrian Parnis.

17’ Nadur were again dangerous through a shot from a good position by Stefan Cassar but the ball ended away from goal.

22’ Nadur’s Stefan Cassar had another opportunity to score another goal for his side but the shot from an angled position ended over the crossbar.

27’ Victoria’s central defender Alexandre Galiano Lazarini denied Nadur from creating more danger when he cleared to a corner a low cross-shot by Joseph Zammit aimed towards the goalmouth.

32’  Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa passed inside Victoria’s area with a personal action and passed to Stefan Cassar who prolonged towards the unmarked Joseph Zammit but the latter had his attempt saved to a corner by goalie Adrian Parnis.

33’ Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa had a shot from outside the area that ended just wide.

34’ Victoria’s best opportunity to reduce the deficit to just one goal arrived through a shot from an angled position by substitute Aaron Touarha but the ball ended on the side of the net.

45+2’ Nadur could have scored their fourth goal but an attempt from a free kick by Marcelo Barbosa was blocked by Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis.
