GFA BOV Gozo Football League 2nd Division (MD 12) Gozo Stadium

Munxar Falcons FC : 1

Sannat Lions FC : 0

4’ (1-0) Nathaniel Mercieca

Munxar F:

J. Micallef, K. Borg, D. Bajada, P. Parnis, E. Bugeja (L. Meilak 72), K. Farrugia, I. Belhadj (S. Muscat 88), N. Mifsud (K. Mizzi 88), N. Mercieca, V.G. Soarez Souza, E. Galea.

Sannat L:

K. Attard, J.W. Meilak (C. Buttigieg 66), K. Xuereb, E. Gauci (M. Mifsud 87), N. Grima, P. Said, D. Borg, T. Agius (C. Dingli 66), A. Azzopardi, B. Kanta, M. Gauci.

Munxar Falcons extended a good moment of form and earned three very important points from a 1-0 win over Sannat Lions so that the Falcons are back in the reckoning to challenge for the runners-up position and a place in the promotion/relegation play-off at the end of the Gozitan championships.  With this result, Sannat missed an opportunity to keep pressure on leaders Victoria Hotspurs so that they fell six points behind the top position with just three matches left until the end of the campaign.

Munxar managed to clinch the win with a goal scored during the opening minutes of the encounter so they took the driving seat for the rest of the match and denied Sannat from re-opening the issue.

Timeline:

Sannat came out to take command of play but they were surprised by Munxar’s early goal and did not manage to recover

2’ Sannat could have opened the score when Boubacar Kanta passed through Munxar’s defence with a personal action but he was denied from concluding towards goal from a good position with an intervention by defender Emmanuel Galea.

4’ (1-0) Munxar scored the goal that decided the issue through a fine shot by Nathaniel Mercieca that ended out of the reach of Sannat’s keeper.

HT (1-0)

Second Half

Munxar continued to hold territorial supremacy after the break but the two defensive departments prevailed over the respective strikers so that the two goalkeepers were never called to make difficult intervention and the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

FT (MF 1 – SL 0)

Referee: Emanuel Grech
