Nadur Youngsters extended a good moment of form in a match from the quarter-finals of the BOV GFA Cup with a 9-1 win over the team occupying the bottom place of the first division championship Oratory Youths.  With this result, the Youngsters confirmed the recovery from a very disappointing start this season and reached the semifinals of an important competition in Gozitan football.

The match was quite interesting during the first half as Oratory gave the impression that they were aiming to be serious challengers to their more quoted opponents.  However, Nadur scored three goals during the opening minutes pf the second half which practically demoralised Oratory’s players who ended up conceding four more goals before the end of the encounter.

Timeline:

Nadur came out more determined but Oratory were well-organised and tried to produce share play with their opponents.  The match turned out to be quite interesting during the first half hour but Nadur took full control of play after scoring their second goal so that they took the break with a deserved lead.

3’ Oratory almost surprised their opponents but an attempt directly from a free kick by Matheus Vinicius Do Pardo was well saved by Nadur’s goalie Steve Sultana.

4’ (protests for penalty) Oratory protested for a penalty when Rian Almeida Lopes ended up on the floor inside Nadur’s as he tried to pass central defender Ian Xuereb.

7’ (1-0) Nadur opened the score in their first serious attempt towards Oratory’s goal when Gabriel Farrugia released Andre Gabriel Castro Martins from the midfield and the latter placed in goal with a low drive towards the far post.

13’ Nadur’s keeper Steve Sultana was again called to make a good intervention to turn to a corner a shot by Oratory Vitor Gabriel Soarez Souza.

15’ The Youngsters could have created more danger when Andre Gabriel Castro Martins delivered a low cross in front of Oratory’s goal but Matthias Mercieca failed to connect and the ball ended wide.

20’ Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli was well placed and neutralised a header by Olimpio Gabriel Fernandes following a corner kick by Joseph Zammit.

27’ Oratory could have levelled the score when Rian Almeida Lopes released Geordie Ellis but the latter saw his shot from a good position that ended wide.

35’ (2-0) own goal – Nadur doubled their lead when Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli partially saved a cross-shot by Matthias Mercieca and from the rebound Andre Gabriel Castro Martins addressed towards goal but central defender Luis Gabriel Santos Silva committed an own goal in an attempt to clear the danger.

41’ The Youngsters kept insisting and were dangerous through a shot from a free kick by Diego Pires Dall’Oca but the ball ended away from the goal

Second Half

Nadur came out more aggressive for the second period and scored three goals within the opening minutes so Oratory were not given any opportunity to produce a reaction to keep the score respectable.

4’ (3-0) Nadur increased their lead with a goal that arrived following a prolonged action as a shot by Igor De Jesus De Santan was partially saved by Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli and from the rebound Nadur’s Andre Gabriel Castro Martins delivered the ball towards the goal mouth so that Joseph Zammit deposited easily in goal with a tap-in.

6’ (4-0) The Youngsters added another goal that arrived through a shot from outside the area by Igor De Jesus De Santana that surprised Oratory’s goalie.

10’ (5-0) Oratory continued to concede pressure from their opponents and suffered the fifth goal through a shot from an angled position by Matthias Mercieca that ended in goal despite the attempt of the goalkeeper to save the danger.

12’ (penalty missed – saved) Nadur could have scored another goal when they were awarded for a foul by Ian Zarb on Olimpio Gabriel Fernandes but the shot from the penalty spot by Diego Pires Dall’Oca was saved by goalie Angelo Brignoli.

14’ (6-0) Nadur’s Andre Gabriel Castro Martins made up for his previous mistake as he concluded in goal with a fine shot following a personal action.

19’ (6-1) penalty Oratory scored their consolation goal when their striker Vitor Gabriel Soarez Souza was floored inside Nadur’s area by substitute Joseph Xerri and the same striker netted his shot from the penalty spot.

22’ (goal disallowed) Nadur’s Joseph Zammit could have increased the lead when he received the ball inside Oratory’s area and passed to substitute Joseph Xerri instead of concluding the action, and although Xerri placed in the net the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement.

26’ (7-1) Nadur however scored their seventh goal through a fine shot by Andre Gabriel Castro Martins following a cross by Joseph Zammit.

27’ Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli made a good save to turn a corner from a free kick by Joseph Zammit.

38’ (8-1) Nadur kept insisting and scored another goal when the ball arrived to an unmarked Joseph Xerri inside Oratory’s area and the latter concluded easily in goal from close distance.

41’ Oratory could have scored another goal but an attempt from a free kick by Luis Gabriel Santos Silva ended high.

42’ (9-1) own goal – Nadur sealed the win with the ninth goal when Oratory’s goalie partially saved a cross by Joseph Zammit but the ball hit defender Ian Zarb who committed an own goal.
