Kercem Ajax registered their sixth consecutive win with a clean sheet from their first six matches of the campaign by defeating Sannat Lions with two goals scored at a late stage of the encounter. With this result, and the results of the other matches from Match-Day 6, Ajax increased their lead over the closest rivals to nine points and therefore they continued to express their supremacy in the category.
Kercem as expected saw more of the ball throughout the ninety minutes but Sannat were determined to obtain a positive result and most of the time they made it very difficult for their strikers to convert their play into scoring opportunities. Kercem however showed character as they kept insisting and were eventually rewarded for their efforts near the end of the match.

Timeline:
Kercem were very aggressive during the opening stages and produced pressure on Sannat’s defence but the latter were well organised and their goalkeeper was in good form so the first half ended in a goalless draw.
2’ Sannat’s goalie Kyle Attard was called to make an important save to block a shot by Andrea Debrincat after receiving from Cesar Velez Da Silva.
7’ Kercem’s Christian Vella had a shot from close distance that got a deflection and the ball ended in a corner.
11’ Sannat’s goalie Kyle Attard made another difficult save to block a close-range header by Cesar Velez Da Silva following a cross from the left flank.
18’ The same goalkeeper was well placed to save a good shot by Cesar Velez Da Silva.
30’ Kercem’s Carlos Cutajar went very close to open the score but a curling shot from outside the area ended just over the crossbar.
33’ In another good action by Kercem, a header by Andrea Debrincat, from a cross by Andre Azzopardi, ended wide.
42’ (crossbar) The Ajax were also unlucky when a header by Cesar Velez Da Silva from a corner kick by Christian Vella was stopped by the crossbar.

Second Half
Kercem continue to produce offensive play from the first minutes of the second period while Sannat retained their strong defensive deployment and operated some sporadic breaks with few players. Kercem however broke the deadlock as the match entered its final phase and sealed the win with a second goal that arrived few minutes from the end of regular time.
10’ Kercem went close to scoring through a shot from close distance by substitute Luke Sultana but the ball ended wide.
18’ Sannat’s goalkeeper made another difficult save to block an attempt directly from a free kick by Kercem’s Cesar Velez Da Silva
27’ Sannat could have surprised their opponents but a good shot by Aud-Gustine James Obaje was blocked to a corner with difficulty by goalie Daniel Spiteri.
29’ Kercem went again close to score but a shot from close distance by Cesar Velez Da Silva was well saved by goalie Kyle Attard
30’ (1-0) Kercem took the deserved lead when Cesar Velez Da Silva defended the ball inside Sannat’s area and fired in goal with a low shot from a good position.
43’ (2-0) The Ajax made sure of the win by scoring the second goal when Andrew Mizzi delivered a cross from the left flank and substitute Lorenzo Atzori concluded in goal from close distance.
