Munxar Falcons recovered from a disappointing patch and earned three points from a 2-0 win over Gharb Rangers so that they re-opened their chances to be challengers for the runners-up position.
In this first match from the second round of the campaign, the two sides were aiming for a positive result as Gharb was coming from some encouraging performances while Munxar, who were without a coach on the substitutes’ bench following the resignation of Franklyn Cassar from the post, needed to make up for consecutive defeats and re-establish their status within the category. In the end, Munxar managed to achieve their objective by scoring the two goals that decided the issue during the first part of the encounter, while Gharb continued to be penalised for inexperience and remained without a win after six matches.

Timeline:
Munxar came out in better shape and seemed determined to take control of the play from the early stages. Gharb was shocked and conceded two goals in the space of three minutes so they ended up compromising their possibility to obtain a positive result.
16’ (0-1) penalty Munxar opened the score when they were awarded a penalty and Daniel Mesa Pineros converted his shot from the spot.
19’ (0-2) The Flacons increased their lead through an effort by Daniel Azzopardi that surprised Gharb’s rearguard.

Second Half
After the resumption, Gharb struggled to produce a reaction but they found it very difficult to create serious scoring opportunities so the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
22’ (red card) Gharb’s best opportunity to reduce the deficit arrived when Igbinobaro ran through Munxar’s territory but defender Paul Parnis committed a foul outside the area and was shown a red card for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
