SK Victoria Wanderers bounced back from two disappointing results in the previous
matches, one from the Gozitan championship and the other from the MFA Meridianbet
FA Trophy with a 2-0 win over Ghajnsielem. With the points obtained the Wanderers
reached the same Ghajnsielem on the table so that the two sides will continue to chase
a safer position on the table in the second half of the championship. This was also
Victoria’s second win over Ghajnsielem in the campaign as the Citizens clinched the full
points at stake in the match between the two sides of the first round.

For this match SK Victoria Wanderers had their main striker Da Silva Costa, who is also
the current leader of the Top Scorer table, missing due to suspension and also
Fernando Mihai, who left Malta for personal reasons, but had Ciaque Silvio Souza Da

Silva who was making a return with the team. On the other hand, Ghajnsielem replaced
their two foreigners Torres Quinones and Joseph Onyeka Ezigbo, who were transferred
with Lautaro Jose Luis Pizzo and Kiao Lucas Nunes Santos. The match was practically
decided with two goals scored by the Citizens during the first part of the encounter.
Ghajnsielem tried to produce a reaction but the Wanderers were well organised at the
defence and continued to be more dangerous in their breaks so that the score remained
unchanged until the final whistle.

Timeline:
SK Victoria Wanderers came out for this match determined to take control of play and
managed to achieve their target as they held command of the midfield and created a
series of scoring opportunities. The Blacks struggled to come out of their defence
during the opening stages but recovered during the final stages of the first half when
the Citizens took their foot off the pedal after opening a two-goal lead.
1’ Ghajnsielem’s best scoring opportunity of the first half arrived from the first action of
the encounter but the attempt by debutant Kiao Lucas Nunes Santos was saved in two
attempts by Victoria’s goalie Samuel Camilleri.
8’ The Wanderers replied with a low shot by Emerson Zammit but goalie Luke Buttigieg
was well-paced and neutralised the danger.
10’ Victoria’s Ciaque Silvio Souza Da Silva had an attempt directly from a free kick but
the ball ended over the crossbar.
20’ The Wanderers missed a good scoring opportunity when Sam Harland delivered an
inviting cross from the right flank but Owen Fenech and Souza Da Silva failed to
conclude from an ideal position.
21’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg was called to make a difficult save to block that
low shot by Emerson Zammit.
25’ (0-1) The Citizens took the lead when Owen Fenech prolonged inside
Ghajnsielem’s area following a corner kick by Souza Da Silva and David Garba
Emmanuel netted with a spectacular overhead kick that surprised the defence
28’ (0-2) Victoria doubled their lead with a goal that arrived through a low shot from
outside the area by Ciaque Silvio Souza Da Silva that ended in the lower corner of
the net.
42’ Ghajnsielem could have created more danger when Claudino Ramos delivered a
cross from the right flank but the header by Haraan Goncalves Barbosa ended wide.

Second Half
Ghajnsielem increased their efforts after the break and seemed determined to recover
the score. However, Victoria’s defence was well organised and resisted the pressure
without conceding many opportunities to their opponents to create danger.
5’ Victoria’s goalie Samuel Camilleri was well placed and saved without difficulty a shot
from outside the area by Naim Ibrahim Belhadj.
15’ The Blacks were again dangerous from a free kick by Alberto Xuereb but the
attempt from an angled position by Lautaro Pizzo ended on the side of the net.
17’ The Wanderer replied with a strike by Owen Fenech but the ball also ended on the
side of the net.
19’ The Citizens could have increased their lead when Sam Harland passed inside
Ghajnsielem’s area but his final shot was weak and goalie Buttigieg saved without
difficulty.
20’ (crossbar) Ghajnsielem almost punished their opponents for the missed chance
when Victoria’s defence cleared badly a free kick by Alberto Xuereb but the header by
Nunes Santos hit the crossbar.
31’ (protests for penalty) Ghajnsielem protested for a penalty alleging handling when
Matthias Cordina tried to clear the ball from his area.
34’ The Wanderers were again dangerous when Garba Emmanuel released Sam
Harland but the latter had his shot from close distance that was blocked to a corner by
the defence.
35’ (crossbar) Victoria went very close to seal the win but a strike from outside the area
by Owen Fenech shaved the crossbar.
38’ Ghajnsielem could have created more danger but a low shot by Claudino Ramos
missed the target.
40’ (red card) SK Victoria Wanderers ended up with a player less on the field when
Skipper Neil Camilleri was sent off for pushing an opponent following a foul on the
goalkeeper.
44’ Ghajnsielem went very close to re-open the issue when Nunes Santos passed
inside the area to Haraan Goncalves Barbosa but the latter was denied from scoring as
his spectacular volley was saved to a corner by goalie Samuel Camilleri.
