Munxar Falcons obtained a 2-1 win over St Lawrence Spurs in the last match for the two sides of the second round and with the points obtained they moved closer to the same St Lawrence and Sannat Lions in the race to obtain the second place in the final standings and the right to contest the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off.  With this win, Munxar took revenge for the defeat conceded with the same score against the same Munxar in the match between the two sides of the first round.

This was Munxar’s second consecutive win arrived after a difficult patch where they compromised their possibility to be more competitive in the campaign.  The match was well contested as the two sides were aiming for the full points at stake.  For most of the time, play took place in the midfield as the defensive departments were in control of the respective strikers but Munxar capitalised on their chances and scored a goal in each half to end the second round on a positive note.  St Lawrence tried hard to earn at least a point from this match but they only managed to reduce the score with a goal scored a few minutes away from the end of the encounter.

Timeline:

The two sides struggled to create scoring opportunities and the two goalkeepers were not called to make difficult interventions.  However, Munxar won a penalty kick seconds before halftime and took the break with a one-goal lead.

19’ St Lawrence had a potential scoring opportunity but an attempt from a free kick by Charlon Farrugia ended just wide.

27’ Munxar replied with an initiative BY Chris Ronaldo Bohui but the striker saw his shot from a good position that was well saved by St Lawrence’s goalie Paul Cremona.

45+1’ (0-1) penalty Munxar were awarded a penalty for a foul by Daniel Micallef on Chris Ronaldo Bohui and Samwel Muscat converted from the spot kick to put his side in the lead.

Second Half

Play became much more interesting after the break as the two sides increased their efforts to obtain the win, although the actions on goal continued to be rare.  Munxar doubled their lead midway through the second half but the Spurs kept insisting and re-opened the issue so that the outcome of the match remained uncertain until the final whistle.

24’ (0-2) Munxar increased their lead when Chris Ronaldo Bohui produced pressure on St Lawrence’s defence, won possession and lobbed over the goalkeeper before he fired into an open goal from close distance.

26’ (crossbar) St Lawrence replied with an attempt by Eduin Junior Padilla Pedrozo from a free kick by Eman Bugeja that was saved with difficulty to a corner by Munxar’s goalie Joel Micallef.  From the resultant corner action, a header by Jurgen Attard hit the crossbar.

34’ (1-2) St Lawrence re-opened the issue when Munxar’s defence cleared the ball from their area and Neville Haber fired in the upper corner of the net with a shot from a long distance.

45+1’ St Lawrence had their best opportunity to score the equaliser but a shot from a free kick by Eduin Junior Padilla Pedrozo ended wide.
