Sannat Lions ended their commitments in the second round of the second division campaign with a 3-2 win over bottom placed Gahrb Rangers who remain without a win from ten matches.

Sannat’s win was hard-earned as they came from behind to recover a two-goal deficit and clinched the win when their opponents seemed demoralised mid-way through the second half.  With the points obtained Sannat re-opened their chances to challenge for the runners-up position in their final matches of the campaign.  Sannat’s protagonist in this win was their veteran striker Aud-Gustine James Obaje who scored a brace and join the group of strikers who are aiming to challenge for the Top-scorer honour of the category.

Timeline:

Gharb saw more of the ball for most of the first period but Sannat managed to keep the danger away from their area for most of the time despite the fact that they were reduced to ten players at an early stage of the encounter.  Gharb’s efforts were rewarded near the end of the first half as they managed to put their heads in front from a penalty kick.

12’ (red card) Sannat ended up playing with a 0layer less on the field of play as Carl Gauci sent off for stopping Baldwin Osayi Igbinobaro from entering alone inside the area.

38’ Sannat were dangerous through a low shot by Gabriel Debrincat but Gharb’s goalie Andre Micallef saved with some difficulty to a corner.  From the same corner action, an effort by substitute Paul Said ended just wide.

40’ (0-1) penalty Gharb took the lead when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Samuel Sillato on Baldwin Osayi Igbonobaro and the same striker converted from the penalty spot.

Second Half

Gharb seemed heading towards their first win in the campaign as they scored their second goal after few minutes of play into the second period but Sannat had an immediate reaction and not only re-opened the issue, but took command of play although they had a player less on the field, and turned the result in their favour.

4’ (0-2) Gharb doubled their lead when Baldwin Osayi Igbinobaro entered Sannat’s area from the right flank and fired in goal from close distance.

5’ (1-2) Sannat reduced the score when a shot by Gabriel Debrincat, following a personal action, was partially saved by Gharb’s goalie Andre Micallef and Aud-Gustine James Obaje concluded in goal from close distance from the rebound.

18’ (2-2) Sannat scored the equaliser when George Portelli delivered the ball inside Gharb’s area from a free kick and Gharb’s defender David Galea hit badly in an attempt to clear the danger and committed an own goal.

22’ (3-2) Sannat turned the result in their favour through a fine volley by Aud-Gustine James Obaje following a cross from the right by Paul Said.
