Nadur Youngsters Brazilian striker Marcelo Junior Barbosa has been named the BOV player of the month for Gozitan football for September. The presentation of the BOV GFA player of the month trophy was made by Mrs. Charmaine Borg, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Gozo Branch.

30-year-old Marcelo Barbosa started playing Gozitan football with Gharb Rangers in 2017 and joined Nadur in the following season where he continued to stand out as a leading striker. He won the championship with Nadur Youngsters in the 2019/2020 season then joined the Hamrun Spartans in the BOV Premier league. In January 2000 he returned to Nadur Youngsters where he returned to play the role of the team’s main striker. This is Barbosa’s third BOV GFA Player of the Month award.

During September Marcelo Barbosa was the protagonist in the Youngster’s 4 matches in the BOV Gozo Football League.  Barbosa scored the only goal of the game against Victoria Hotspurs, a hat-trick in the seven-goal win over Xewkija Tigers and a brace in the four-goal win over the Sannat Lions.

Nadur Youngsters are looking competitive in all competitions with Barbosa working hard to be the league’s top scorer.

The Arka Foundation is Barbosa’s charity of choice to benefit from Bank of Valletta donation associated with this award
