Kercem Ajax registered a convincing win over Sannat Lions and with the points obtained they reached the top of the table.  The Ajax are now joining Qala Saints on equal points as the two sides remain the only teams of the category without a defeat after four matches.

Kercem dominated the encounter and they put their minds at rest from the three points with four goals scored within the first half hour of play.  In this match Kercem’s defence was rarely tested seriously but the Ajax expressed their strong potential in the built up of their offensive play.  Kercem converted their superiority by obtaining a comfortable win.  Sannat, on the other hand, suffered Kercem’s play and they never seemed in a position to recover the deficit.  Sannat had their best patch of play during the opening minutes of the second period but they could not avoid a second heavy defeat in the championship.

Timeline:

Kercem took command of play from the first minutes and produced pressure on Sannat’s defence which was converted in four goals scored within the opening thirty minutes.

6’ (1-0) Kercem opened the score in their first serious attempt towards goal that arrived through a personal initiative by Gabriel Cardona who passed within Sannat’s territory and surprised the goalkeeper with a strike from outside the area.

12’ (2-0) Kercem doubled their lead when Sannat’s goalie partially saved a low cross from the right flank by Daniel Cassar and from the rebound Marcos Vinicius Da Costa Soares Da Silva deposited the ball into an open goal.

14’ (3-0) Kercem’s Daniel Cassar once again produced an action that ended in goal as his low cross from the right was not cleared by the defence and from the resultant melee Gabriel Cardona netted with a low shot.

16’ Sannat’s goalie made a difficult save to turn to a corner an effort from long distance by Luiz Henrique Santana Motta.

19’ Kercem missed a good scoring opportunity when Sannat’s defence stopped for an offside and the ball arrived to an unmarked Marcus Vinicius Da Costa Soares Da Silva but the latter hit badly and the goalkeeper saved without difficulty.

26’ Sannat replied through a free kick from long distance by Sebastien Martinez Turizo that was saved to a corner by goalie Daniel Spiteri.

30’ (4-0) penalty Kercem were awarded a penalty for a foul by Rennan Heitor Alves Saldanha on Andrew Mizzi and Luiz Henrique Santana Motta increased the lead by converting from the spot.

33’ Sannat went again close to scoring but a close ranged shot by Camilo Andres Sanchez Gonzales was well saved by Kercem’s keeper.

44’ Kercem were again dangerous but a header by Andrew Mizzi following a cross from the left flank by Nathaniel Mercieca ended just high.

HT (4-0)

Second Half

Kercem reduced their intensity of play after the break and during the opening minutes they allowed Sannat to share more play in the midfield.  However, the Ajax continued to be more dangerous, scored more goals and missed some other good scoring opportunities.

10’ Sannat could have created more danger when Sebastien Martinez Turizo

11’ (5-0) Kercem scored their fifth goal through a header by Marcos Vinicius Da Costa Soares Da Silva, following a cross from the left flank by Nathaniel Mercieca, with the ball ending in goal despite the attempt by the goalkeeper to stop the danger.

15’ Sannat’s goalie Luke Buttigieg made a good save to turn the ball to a corner following a strike from an angled position by Bruno Da Cruz.

20’ Kercem’s goalie Daniel Spiteri was well placed and saved to a corner a free kick from long distance by Sebastien Martinez Turizo.

27’ The Ajax went again close to increase the score but an attempt directly from a free kick by Pablo Vinicius De Moraes Ferreira ended just wide.

45+1’ (6-0) Kercem scored another goal when a shot by Pablo Vinicius De Moraes Ferreira was partially saved by goalie Luke Buttigieg and form the rebound Andrew Mizzi pushed the ball in the net despite a challenge by an opponent.
